Job summary

Bird Construction in Mississauga is seeking a Junior Estimator to support civil estimating for major road and bridge projects. The role focuses on take-offs, cost estimates, and supplier quotations, with collaboration from senior estimators and project managers.

The position is based in Mississauga with potential 20% remote work. The ideal candidate holds a civil engineering related diploma/degree and 1+ years of estimating experience, with knowledge of InEight/B2W and civil methods.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related discipline.
• 1+ years of estimating experience supporting civil/infrastructure projects.
• Experience with bid strategy, quantity take-offs, subcontractor pricing, cost analysis, bid closing and submission.
• Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
• Excellent time management and ability to prioritize work.
• Experience reviewing prime contracts, drawings, and commercial terms.
• Understanding of civil construction methods, sequencing, productivity, and risk.
• Knowledge of InEight, B2W or similar estimating software.
• Site experience and knowledge of MTO projects is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans, specs, and documents to understand scope and requirements.
• Perform take-offs from drawings and develop material and labor estimates.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates including labor, materials, subs, and other costs.
• Engage subcontractors and suppliers for quotations.
• Analyze quotes for accuracy and completeness.
• Refine estimates as design progresses.
• Collaborate with senior estimators and project managers on bids and proposals.
• Maintain cost databases and historical data to ensure consistency.
