Job summary

Cahill Technical Services (CTS), a division of The Cahill Group, seeks a Building Automation Field Technician for Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The role focuses on start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field service across commercial, industrial, or building applications.

The ideal candidate will have instrumentation/controls background, strong problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate with project teams to deliver complex automation projects.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Instrumentation, Electrical, HVAC, or Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
• 2+ years of experience in programming, building automation, controls, instrumentation, or field-level controls.
• Experience with Siemens or Distech control systems is an asset.
• Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and MPTS networks is an asset.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems and control theory.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Bluebeam is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Program, configure, commission, and troubleshoot building automation and control systems.
• Configure I/O, control logic, and communication networks.
• Integrate building automation systems with third-party equipment, vendor systems, monitoring platforms, and supervisory systems.
• Calibrate and test sensors, transmitters, and other field devices.
• Perform scheduled service visits and prepare detailed service reports for clients.
• Support the commissioning, testing, and verification of new projects and installations.
• Diagnose and resolve control system, instrumentation, and communication issues.
• Assist with control panel assembly, design reviews, wiring verification, and field installations.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and field teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Participate in project turnover, documentation, and client training.
• Review technical drawings, specifications, and functional sequences for accuracy and constructability.
• Develop skills in AutoCAD and Bluebeam to support effective design and seamless field installation.
• Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders to achieve cohesive system integration throughout all phases of a project.
• Support the preparation of project cost estimates and quotations for clients.
