Job summary

Durham District School Board is seeking a skilled HVAC/R Technician to install, service, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems within DDSB facilities. The role requires a 313A certificate, G1 licence, and Ozone Depletion Prevention certification, with a preference for five years of licensed trades experience.

The position operates on a 40-hour week, day shift from 6:30 a.m.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship completion with a valid 313A certificate.
• Valid G1 licence required.
• Ozone Depletion Prevention certification required.
• Minimum five years as a licensed tradesman preferred.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration controls, and related circuitry.

Responsibilities

• Maintain HVAC and refrigeration equipment in DDSB facilities.
• Install/upgrade systems; service, repair, and overhaul equipment; keep updated with codes and procedures.
• Diagnose problems and perform troubleshooting to ensure proper operation.
• Inspect and commission new or upgraded installations as needed.
• Order materials and parts through Supervisor; maintain records.

Job description

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor to install, service, maintain, and repair all types of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment in DDSB Facilities and to be responsible for record keeping, supervising part-time workers and other trades, and maintaining all equipment and tools used.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain the HVAC and Refrigeration Equipment in the DDSB Facilities
• Install heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment; responsible for servicing, repairing, and overhauling the equipment; responsible for continuing knowledge of code changes, material, equipment, new products, methods and procedures used;
• Diagnose problems with the HVAC and refrigeration equipment and perform various troubleshooting and corrective procedures to ensure the equipment is working properly;
• Inspect and commission for new or upgraded installations for systems or equipment, as needed;
• Order new material, replacement parts and other purchases, through the Supervisor;
• Assist in the maintenance and control of cooling towers and water treatment.
• Perform other Duties in the Maintenance Center
• Record, document and assist in record keeping;
• Supervise part-time workers and other trades in the performance of their work;
• Responsible for assigned trucks and truck inspections; responsible for all other Board equipment and tools used.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of an apprenticeship and possession of a valid Ontario Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (313A) Certificate of Qualification.
• Valid Gas Technician 1 (G1) licence.
• Valid Ozone Depletion Prevention Certificate.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience as a licensed tradesman is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of electric and electronic circuitry related to HVAC and refrigeration controls and control systems.
• Experience with roof top and other gas fired heating units; centrifugal refrigeration and pneumatics.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, wiring and pipe schematics.
• Class G Driver’s Licence in good standing.
• Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS.

Additional Information

• This is a 40 hour per week, day shift position
• Work schedule is 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
• Provide a current criminal record and judicial matters check (CRJMC) screening upon hire.
