Job summary

City of Kelowna is hiring an HVAC Technician for a full-time on-site position located at Windsor Road. The role requires diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC systems, with a focus on energy efficiency and reliability.

The successful candidate will participate in preventive maintenance and coordinate with contractors. Requirements include Refrigeration Mechanic and Gasfitter (Class B), BC Class 5 license, HVAC experience, and strong problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

• Hold trades certification as Refrigeration Mechanic and Gasfitter (Class B).
• Valid BC Driver’s Licence (Class 5).

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, design, install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems.
• Recommend HVAC design changes and ensure quality standards; document building systems.
• Investigate building comfort concerns and advise on improvements.
• Collaborate with clients and consultants to improve energy efficiency and reduce GHG emissions.
• Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot building automation control systems.
• Design and implement preventive maintenance per Asset Management Program.
• Plan preventive maintenance on mechanical systems including sourcing, lubrication, and inspection.
• Coordinate maintenance schedules and oversee contractors.
• Prepare cost estimates and input on annual budgets; prioritize equipment replacement.
• Participate in industry training to stay updated on technologies.
• Respond to emergency calls when required.

• The candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, designing, installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
• The candidate will be responsible for recommending proper HVAC design, ensuring quality standards are met, and maintaining accurate documentation on all building systems.
• The candidate will be responsible for investigating building comfort complaints and instructing clients on ways to improve comfort levels.
• The candidate will work with clients and consultants to increase energy efficiency and reduce GHG consumption.
• The candidate will operate, monitor, and troubleshoot building automation control systems.
• The candidate must design and implement a preventive maintenance program aligned with the Asset Management Program.
• The candidate must plan and carry out preventive maintenance on building mechanical systems including parts sourcing, replacement, lubrication, cleaning, inspection, and adjustment.
• The candidate must coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and activities including inspecting and overseeing the work of contractors.
• The candidate will prepare cost estimates and purchase requisitions, provide input on annual budget development, and recommend equipment replacement priorities.
• The candidate must participate in industry-specific training to stay updated on the latest technologies.
• The candidate must respond to emergency calls when required.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must hold trades certification as a Refrigeration Mechanic and Gasfitter (Class B).
• The candidate must possess a valid BC Driver’s Licence (Class 5).
• The candidate must have relevant HVAC or mechanical systems maintenance experience.
• The candidate must demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in mechanical system diagnostics.
