Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a hands-on HVAC apprentice to train on-site at client facilities within Ontario. You will engage in certified training through the Service Technical Academy and work under guidance to resolve building system issues and optimize energy performance.

The role emphasizes safety, union rules, and customer-facing professionalism, with opportunities for advancement as you complete certifications and gain experience on diverse HVAC equipment.

Qualifications

  • Active 2nd- or 3rd-year UA Local 787 apprentice.
  • General knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems and facilities management.
  • Effective interpersonal and professional conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Train and perform work on HVAC equipment at client sites.
  • Participate in Service Technical Academy training for skill development and advancement.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues and customer needs with coaching.
  • Keep Johnson Controls, contractors, and customers advised of progress and issues.
  • Meet attendance requirements for Union training during the first year.
  • Provide recommendations to improve facility efficiency and identify upsell opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

In addition, we provide factory certification through our Service Technical Academy (STA). we will equip you with the tools and a vehicle to perform your job to the highest standard. You will provide our customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service-related issues. As a trusted advisor to our customers, you will provide solutions and outcomes at the time of service.

How You Will Do It
  • Apprentices will be trained and will perform work on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls at client sites.
  • Apprentices will participate in certified training through the Service Technical Academy that will build skill sets and provide continued opportunities for recognition, monetary rewards, and advancement.
  • Through coaching and mentorship, apprentices will develop skills to troubleshoot and resolve both technical issues and customer needs.
  • You will keep JCI, contractors, and customers advised of job progress and issues as needed.
  • You will meet attendance requirements for required Union training during the first year.
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facilities are running efficiently, including identifying upselling opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
What We Look For
  • This is a Union position, and the successful candidate must already be an active 2nd- or 3rd-year apprentice on the UA Local 787 Apprentice List.
  • General knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent Johnson Controls to customers and other external contacts in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Leadership skills to support the activities of mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical mechanical HVAC equipment at a job site.
  • Self-starter with the ability to eventually work independently.
  • Prioritizes safety in all forms.
  • This position requires a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to be on call as required.
Preferred
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset.

Pay Range: $31.97- $39.17 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role. However, we recognize that exceptional candidates may bring unique skills and experiences that exceed the typical profile.
