Job summary

Johnson Controls in Calgary is seeking a skilled Journeyperson with HVAC plumbing experience to service residential, light industrial and commercial markets, using the most advanced equipment and our customers.

The role includes factory certification through STA, a company vehicle and uniforms, plus union-based benefits and on-call availability. Strong customer service and accurate communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of practical HVAC plumbing/mechanical service experience.
  • Ability to service and install plumbing mechanical equipment.
  • Reading blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine plumbing layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform HVAC plumbing service in residential and commercial markets.
  • Read blueprints and determine piping layout.
  • Install and maintain domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing systems.
  • Work with boilers and equipment over 400,000 BTU.
  • Ensure safety and high-level customer service.

What you will do

Do you have HVAC Plumbing experience? We are looking for skilled a Journeyperson who have worked in residential, light industrial, and/or light/heavy commercial markets to join our team to work with the most advanced heavy commercial and industrial cutting-edge equipment, systems and our customers.

How you will do it

We provide factory certification through our Service Technical Academy (STA) with milestone recognition and monetary rewards and advancement, increased incentive opportunity for executed pull-through work, top of the line technology, equipment, decaled vehicle, uniforms, and a #1 focus on employee safety. We will equip you with tools and a vehicle to perform your job at the highest standard.

Must be a skilled craftsperson in their trade, and we prefer a minimum of five (5) years actual, practical working experience in the HVAC plumbing/mechanical equipment service industry. Special consideration will be given to those applicants who also have provincial certification A/B Class – Gasfitter.

What we look for:
Required/Specific Skills
  • Red Seal Journeyperson Plumbing Ticket with a willingness to pursue an HVAC apprenticeship path and further develop technical expertise in HVAC systems
  • 3+ years of residential / light commercial / heavy commercial mechanical troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to perform general building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with boilers over 400,000 BTU.
  • Ability to service and install various manufacturers of plumbing mechanical equipment.
  • Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing
  • Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems
  • Install, repair and maintain domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems
  • Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors
  • Cut opening in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings
  • Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment
  • Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges
  • Appropriate licenses to work with boiler and steam operational & service knowledge.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to be on-call as required.
  • This position is open to union or non-union tradesmen.
Preferred/Not Required
  • Class A Gasfitter
  • Permits/appropriate licensing to work with refrigeration equipment an asset (such as EPA/HRAI Refrigeration Certification)

Pay Range: $51.96 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are providedthrough a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement.
