Job summary

Daikin Applied is seeking a full-time HVAC Journeyman in Ottawa, ON, onsite. You will service a range of commercial and industrial equipment, perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance, and participate in ongoing training programs.

You will mentor apprentices, lead rebuilds, and document work, with union-affiliated benefits and a competitive hourly wage of about CAD 63.33. A journeyman status and valid license are required, with a strong safety mindset.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years of related HVAC experience.
• Journeyman status accepted by the union.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record.
• License/training as required by local law.
• Rotational emergency call support availability.
• Experience mentoring technicians.
• First aid/ CPR card preferred.

Responsibilities

• Service and inspect HVAC systems including chillers, air handling units and rooftop units.
• Repair and replace defective components and wiring.
• Maintain equipment to prevent breakdowns and callbacks.
• Diagnostics, troubleshooting, pipefitting and brazing of commercial HVAC equipment.
• Conduct warranty service inspections and verifications.
• Educate customers on operation and maintenance procedures.
• Lead apprentices through rebuilds and retrofits.
• Record billing, inventory, timecards and reports.
• Download programs and analyze chiller trend data.
• Participate in training and maintain certifications.
• Maintain clean work area and adhere to safety policies.
• Complete jobsite hazard assessments before service.

Location: Ottawa, ON - Onsite

Your Responsibilities:

• Perform service of equipment including inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality including but not limited to chillers, fan coils, water source heat pumps, applied air handling units, rooftop units, cooling towers, and condenser tubes
• Repair and replace defective equipment, components, or wiring
• Maintain and inspect equipment to identify potential problems to prevent premature and unexpected breakdowns or callbacks
• Perform intermediate and advanced independent diagnostics, troubleshooting, pipefitting, and brazing of commercial HVAC equipment
• Conduct warranty service application by independently inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality of all commercial HVAC equipment
• Educate technical and non-technical customers on proper use of equipment, maintenance schedule, and operating manual usage
• Lead and participate in the rebuild and retrofit of commercial HVAC level units including the direction of apprentice level technicians through hands-on demonstration of the necessary steps
• Record and report billing, inventory, timecards, technician tip reports, and other articles as required and in a timely manner
• Download programs into commercial HVAC equipment and Micro controllers and analyze chiller trend data to ensure optimal performance
• Participate in available training through regional technician trainers, and off-site learning modules
• Maintain all required certifications and continue to develop new skill sets
• Ensure standards, policies, procedures, and maintenance of a clean work area are always upheld
• Complete jobsite hazard assessment prior to initiating service and adhere to Daikin Applied and customer safety policies

Your Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Associate’s Degree or technical school HVAC certification (preferred)
• 5+ years of related experience with increasing responsibility or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Accepted as Journeyman by the union
• Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
• Required license(s) and/or training card as required by local law district
• Rotational Emergency Call Support availability as required
• Previous experience in mentoring less experienced technicians
• Current first aid / CPR card (preferred)

The expected hourly rate for this position is $63.33 in ON. The rate is subject to the amount outlined in the CBA and could change based on the level offered. Benefits are provided through a local labor union and aligned to the CBA.
