Job summary

Hatch in Western Canada is seeking a Substation Lead to guide the design of high voltage substation facilities from 4.16kV to 500kV, ensuring safety, constructability and technical compliance across projects.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team, deliver accurate drawings, coordinate with protection & controls, civil, structural and field teams, and mentor junior engineers while supporting business development and client presentations. Occasional travel to client sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada.
• 10+ years in design of transmission/ distribution substations.
• Experience with ETAP, WinIGS/CDEGS, IEEE 3000 series.
• Knowledge of CSA, Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE, NERC and regs.
• Experience with EPC/utility capital projects and leading teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical scope, quality, schedule and delivery of substation projects.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers.
• Deliver designs for 4.16kV to 500kV substations.
• Coordinate with protection, civil, structural, telecom, SCADA and construction.
• Review SME-level design work and provide technical support.
• Prepare construction drawing packages and review submittals.
• Support business development including proposals and client presentations.
• Travel to client sites as needed.
