Training, Education, Experience
- Post secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources or related field. A CPHR designation is an asset.
- 5 years of progressively responsible HR experience including 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and improving HR processes and service delivery.
- Experience in full-cycle recruitment and employee onboarding.
- Experience in HRIS implementation and administration.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations.
- Experience working with payroll teams and understanding how HR and payroll work together.
- Experience working with an Indigenous community or organization is a strong asset.
- Class 5 Drivers License and acceptable Drivers Abstract.
- Acceptable Police Information Check

- Strong knowledge of employment related legislation including the Canada Labour Code and Canadian Human Rights Act.
- Working knowledge of collective agreements and labour relations legislation is an asset.

- Ability to deal with conflict or difficult situations and work with parties to find appropriate solutions.
- Well-developed writing skills.

List of Duties
- Reporting to the HR Director, the Human Resources Manager oversees the day-to-day delivery of HR programs and services for the Tla’amin Nation.
- The HR Manager works collaboratively across departments to support a range of HR services from recruiting and onboarding to performance development, employee relations and staff engagement.
- The HR Manager plays a key role in advancing the Nation’s HR programs and practices with a focus on continuous improvement and process optimization.
- As part of the HR Team, the Manager works to build and strengthen Tla’amin’s overall HR program to ensure employees feel valued and supported to do their best work.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin laws, regulations, policies, practices and procedures as directed by the Director, Human Resources.
- Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to Citizens, clients, employees and general matters of the Nation.
- Works with the HR Director and HR Team to ensure HR programs, practices and services are culturally aligned and support organizational and Comprehensive Nation Plan (CNP) goals.
- Oversees the day-to-day work of the HR team including recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, policy administration, employee relations, leave management, changes to employment terms, records management etc.
- Supervises and provides support to the HR Generalists.
- Communicates effectively and ensures clarity of roles and responsibilities.
- Ensures the team has the tools, training, and resources to accomplish their work.
- Ensures that policies and procedures are understood and followed including safe work practices.
- Fosters a respectful, healthy, and safe work environment where everyone feels valued and supported.
- Leads the hiring, onboarding, and training of direct reports.
- Holds regular check-ins and performance conversations with team members, offering constructive feedback, celebrating achievements, and supporting growth and improvement when needed.
- Provides hands-on support to the HR team.
- Leads the development, implementation and improvement of HR processes to ensure they run smoothly, are administered consistently and that no important steps are missed – helping the team to deliver timely, reliable and people-centered services.
- Oversees and supports the implementation, administration and ongoing improvement of the HR Information System (HRIS), making sure it supports both staff and management needs. Ensures data accuracy, reporting capabilities and user training.
- Manages disability claims for the Nation, working with our benefits consultant and group benefits insurer. Helps staff navigate the disability claim and leave process with care and support.
- Upholds Tla’amin’s Respectful Workplace Policy by serving as a Designated Recipient and addressing disrespectful behavior or harassment complaints through fair processes as outlined in the policy.
- Collaborates closely with the payroll team to keep HR and payroll process running smoothly including employee data and changes and leave tracking/accruals.
- Works collaboratively with the HR Advisor at Tla’amin Health to align HR programs, practices, and procedures between Tla’amin Health (unionized employees) and the Nation.
- Provides guidance and practical advice to managers and supervisors helping them navigate staff issues, performance conversations and workplace concerns. Collaborates with the HR Director on complex issues.
- Helps put Tla’amin’s HR policies and practices in action, supporting managers and the HR team to make sure we are following our policies and federal employment laws.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with employees and managers demonstrating respect, cultural awareness and collaboration.
- Helps track and use HR data to inform decisions and improve services.
- Keeps up to date on employment laws, including the Canada Labour Code, the Canadian Human Rights Act, federal privacy law etc.
- Working Conditions: This is an in-person position based out of Governance House at Tla’amin Nation. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Occasional travel to attend meetings or training is required.
