Job Brief

The Lethbridge Police Service is currently accepting applications for a full-time permanent Human Resources Manager.

The Opportunity

In this role, you bring agility, analytical thinking, and adaptability to a rapidly evolving environment. The Human Resources Manager plays a vital role within Lethbridge Police Service (LPS), acting as a trusted advisor. Leading a team of two and reporting directly to the Deputy Chief of Police, the HR Manager collaborates closely with the Executive Team, managers, employees, and the City of Lethbridge.

This position offers a high degree of variety, with exposure to a broad range of HR functions, allowing you to deepen your competencies and expand your experience. You will assess situations, understand organizational needs, and provide guidance aligned with legislation and collective agreements. Experience in government and unionized environments is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with organizational goals
  • Oversee HR policies and procedures
  • Lead and guide the HR team, executives, and staff
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations
  • Maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Develop HR metrics to evaluate programs
  • Communicate effectively across the organization
  • Manage claims and disability processes in collaboration with relevant teams
  • Analyze workforce needs and develop strategies
  • Handle labor relations as needed
  • Review and modify promotion processes
  • Research special topics as required
  • Represent LPS on the Alberta Association Police of Chiefs People and Culture Committee
Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience, preferably in policing or government
  • Experience in a unionized HR environment
  • University degree in management, HR, or related field
  • Certified HR Professional or eligible
  • Knowledge of sound HR practices
  • Strong interpersonal and strategic skills
  • Project management capabilities
  • Ability to adapt from policing to mainstream business cultures
Additional Details

Salary: $112,456.50 - $140,575.50

Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours/week, with flexible options

The City offers competitive benefits, including health care and a pension plan.
