Job summary

Linmac LLP seeks an experienced HR Manager to support its Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver offices in a full-time, in-office capacity. Reporting to the CEO, the role drives people and culture initiatives, oversees daily HR operations, and inputs strategic HR direction for growth.

You will lead onboarding, training, and talent pipelines, shaping role definitions, capacity targets, and hiring triggers as the firm scales.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive HR leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as first point of contact for day-to-day HR matters and guidance to staff and leadership.
  • Align roles and task allocation to maximize team effectiveness through regular reviews.
  • Partner with practice leads to translate workflows into staffing models with defined hiring triggers.
  • Own onboarding and training programs with repeatable playbooks and ramp-up targets for new hires.
  • Design and manage talent pipeline and retention infrastructure to support growth and acquisition strategies.
  • Forecast staffing needs across practice areas and oversee onboarding/offboarding of all employees.
  • Collaborate with Management Committee to translate strategic priorities into actionable HR initiatives.
  • Communicate and reinforce that each role aligns with the firm’s direction through coaching and feedback loops.
  • Oversee performance reviews, structure competitive benefits, and conduct salary benchmarking across offices.
  • Provide input on organizational strategy to ensure the HR framework supports growth.
  • Ensure HR policies comply with employment standards and health and safety.
  • Manage HR budget, HRIS usage, and leadership reporting on trends and turnover.
  • Serve as a point of contact for vacation requests and strategic alignment.
  • Maintain knowledge of laws and best practices in HR.
  • Handle other administrative duties as required.

Job description

We are currently looking for an experienced HR Manager to join our Calgary office with responsibility supporting our Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver offices. This is a permanent, full-time position working in our downtown Calgary office. This is an in-office role. The role reports to the CEO, in this capacity the Human Resources Manager will be responsible for key organizational and staffing issues, have strategic input on people and culture initiatives, while managing day-to-day HR operations.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the first point of contact for all day-to-day HR matters, providing timely, practical guidance to staff and leadership.
  • Continuously align roles and task allocation to ensure every team member is operating at their highest and best use, reassigning or eliminating misplaced work through regular reviews.
  • Partner with practice leads to translate documented workflows into staffing models, including role definitions, capacity targets, and hiring triggers as the firm scales.
  • Own the firm’s onboarding and training program, building repeatable playbooks tied to documented processes with defined ramp-up targets for new hires.
  • Design and manage the talent pipeline and retention infrastructure to support the firm’s growth and acquisition strategy.
  • Forecasting staffing needs to match practice areas and growth strategies including overseeing the onboarding and offboarding of all employees.
  • Work closely with the Management Committee to champion the firm’s vision and business plan, translating strategic priorities into clear operational actions across the team.
  • Ensure every staff member understands how their role connects to the firm’s direction, and reinforce that alignment through regular communication, coaching, and feedback loops.
  • Oversee annual performance reviews, structure competitive benefit packages, and administer salary benchmarking relevant to the Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver legal market.
  • Provide input to the senior leadership team on the organizational strategy, ensuring the HR framework supports the firm’s entrepreneurial and growth-oriented goals.
  • Ensure all HR policies adhere to the employment standards of each jurisdiction and comply with health and safety standards.
  • Manage the HR budget, navigating our HRIS system and reporting to the leadership team on trends, turnover, and workflow.
  • Act as a first point of contact on all HR matters from vacation requests to strategic vision alignment, and execution.
  • Working knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment and human resources fields.
  • Other administrative and HR duties as required.
Requirements
  • 5 years+ progressive experience in Human Resources leadership
  • Industry experience in a professional office setting an asset (Law, Accounting, Engineering, Dental, Medical, Architecture)
  • Post-secondary degree and/or certificate from a recognized HR program
  • CPHR or equivalent designation an asset
  • Experience with an HRIS system (BambooHR, Rise, Humi, etc)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
