Job summary

Canada Cartage is seeking an HR Generalist to support a broad range of HR tasks across the employee lifecycle. The role reports to the HR Business Partner and requires delivering training, conducting performance management, investigations, and policy compliance.

Responsibilities include process mapping, program documentation, recruitment support, and employee engagement initiatives, with some travel to Atlantic Canada and Quebec. 3–5 years’ related experience and bilingual fluency are required.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of progressive HR experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree/Certificate in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or related field; CHRP is an asset.
  • Bilingual French and English, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice to Team Leaders and Operations Managers on employee relations, performance management, discipline and documentation.
  • Map and document processes for employee programs; streamline processes for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and deliver training programs (orientation, leadership, cultural and operational).
  • Support recruitment and onboarding for hourly and some salary roles.
  • Assist in investigations, incident reporting and compliance with HR policies and the Canada Labour Code.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives and coordinate engagement surveys.
  • Assist with special HR projects and leadership development efforts as needed.

Job description

Working within a Commercelink, a 24/7 operation and division of Canada Cartage, this role reports to the HR Business Partner, this role will be responsible for a broad range of HR tasks relating to the employee’s employment cycle including but not limited to training, performance management, employee relations, compliance with HR policies and procedures, investigations and administrative responsibilities. This role will support the coordination of HR programs, employment changes and organizational initiatives. This role also supports the documentation and maintenance of processes utilized across the team.

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 40 hours

Note: Some minimal travel across Atlantic Canada and Quebec may be required

What you will do

  • Provides practical advice and assistance to the Team Leaders and Operations Managers in the areas of employee relations, performance management, progressive discipline and documentation, training and development, claims management, recruitment and selection, consistent and fair policy application, and Federal legislation awareness (CLC).
  • Mapping and documentation of processes & best practices for employee programs. Streamline existing processes for continuous improvement. Identify process gaps, make recommendations and work with key stakeholders to execute process efficiencies.
  • Provides training and support through the identification, development and delivery of training and education programs (new hire orientation, cultural, operational, and leadership). Assists, coordinates and tracks training activities.
  • Promotes positive, inclusive work environment through coaching and counseling employees, responding to general inquiries, and resolving issues in a timely manner and in accordance with legislation and company policies and procedures (i.e. open door, progressive discipline, investigation techniques).
  • Assist in the development and delivery of special projects and HR training programs related to leadership development and HR initiatives as needed.
  • Support the HRBP with investigating and reporting incidents including; misconduct, accidents, injuries, complaints, near misses, infractions, and other violations of company policies and procedures.
  • Supports the HRBP in championing Employee Engagement by ensuring Grass Roots meetings are scheduled, executed and partnering with Management to address issues where required. Support Managers in coordinating the annual Employee Engagement survey.
  • Provides support for the recruitment (postings, interviews) and on-boarding process for all hourly and some salary roles.

What You’ll Bring

  • 3-5 years of relevant progressive experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree/Certificate in Human Resources, Industrial Relation or a related discipline
  • CHRP (Certified Human Resources Profession) designation, an asset
  • Bilingual French and English, both verbal and written skills, mandatory
