Job summary

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Communication, or a related field.
  • CPHR designation or progress toward designation is considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of progressive human resources experience.
  • Experience in Indigenous organizations, public sector, or similarly complex environments is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code, employment standards, human rights legislation, and HR best practices.

Title: Human Resources Generalist

Department: Human Resources

Status: Regular Full Time

Pay Category: Salary Range 6 ($67,040.00 to $92,180.00 per year)

Reporting to: Director of Human Resources

Summary of Duties: Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist provides a broad range of human resources services with a primary focus on recruitment and employee relations. The role coordinate full-cycle recruitment activities and supports managers and employees with employee relations matters, including performance management, workplace concerns, conflict resolution, accommodations, and policy interpretation. Working in alignment with the Lilwat Nation's values, cultural teachings, and a trauma-informed approach, the HR Generalist helps foster a respectful, positive, and productive workplace. The role also supports HR administration, HRIS maintenance, employment documentation, job description management, onboarding and offboarding, training coordination, and other HR programs and initiatives. HR Generalist works with leaders across the organization to deliver responsive, consistent people-centered HR services.

Employee Relations
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on employee relations matters, workplace concerns, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in resolving employee issues through coaching, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Support managers with performance concerns, attendance issues, and corrective action processes.
  • Escalate complex or high-risk employee relations matters to the Director of HR.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and legally defensible documentation.
  • Support workplace investigations involving harassment, misconduct, policy violations, workplace conflict, and other employee concerns. Under the direction of the Director of HR, gather information, conduct interviews, prepare documentation, and assist in developing findings and recommendations.
Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
  • Coordinate full-cycle recruitment activities, including job postings, applicant screening, interview scheduling, attending interviews, reference checks, offer letters, and employment contracts.
  • Support hiring managers throughout recruitment and selection processes.
  • Coordinate onboarding, internal transfers, employee changes, and offboarding activities.
  • Help ensure a positive candidate and employee experience throughout the employment lifecycle.
Performance Management
  • Support performance management processes, including probation reviews, performance improvement plans, performance evaluations, and documentation.
  • Provide guidance to managers on performance management processes and documentation requirements.
  • Monitor timelines and ensure performance-related records are maintained accurately.
HR Administration & HRIS
  • Maintain HRIS records and employee data to ensure accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Process employee change forms, employment status changes, reporting structure changes, and benefits-related transactions.
  • Prepare employment documentation, including offer letters, employment confirmations, probationary reviews, accommodation documentation, and other HR correspondence.
  • Provide initial guidance regarding all types of employee leave, workplace accommodation, modified duties, and return-to-work processes in accordance with applicable policies and legislation.
  • Coordinate job description reviews and updates with managers.
  • Maintain employee files in accordance with legislative and organizational requirements.
HR Programs & Operational Support
  • Assist with HR reporting, workforce metrics, projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the implementation and administration of HR policies, procedures, events, and programs.
  • Support compliance with applicable legislation, including the Canada Labour Code, employment standards, human rights requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Coordinate training logistics and maintain training records as required.
  • Attend Occupational Health and Safety meetings as assigned and provide administrative support on employee-related matters.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience and Attributes
  • Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Communication, or a related field.
  • CPHR designation or progress toward designation is considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of progressive human resources experience.
  • Some experience supporting employee relations matters, workplace investigations, performance management, and recruitment.
  • Working knowledge of the Canada Labour Code, employment standards, human rights legislation, workplace accommodation, and HR best practices, or transferrable experience with other similar legislation.
  • Experience working in Indigenous organizations, public sector, community service, government, or similarly complex environments is considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and build trusted working relationships.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and documentation skills with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and culturally safe approaches to workplace relationships.
  • Understanding of and respect for Líl̓wat Nation values, traditions, and community priorities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License with a satisfactory driver's abstract, with reliable transportation
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector screening if required).
