Job description

Full-time Opportunity | On-site in Elk Valley, BC (Relocation Required) | Salary: $95,000–$112,000/annum | Must hold a valid Canadian Work Visa

Our client, an established mining operator with a significant presence in British Columbia’s Elk Valley, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Advisor for a permanent, full-time opportunity.

Reporting to the Senior Advisor, Human Resources, the HR Advisor will provide day-to-day human resources support and guidance to employees, supervisors, and leaders across a large operational environment. This is a broad, hands‑on HR position with exposure to employee relations, performance management, compensation, recruitment, career development, disability management, labour relations, and other areas of the HR function.

The successful candidate will be a well-rounded HR professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment, managing sensitive employee matters, providing practical advice to leaders, and balancing multiple priorities. The role requires strong judgment, communication, and relationship-building skills, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

The position is based 100% onsite in the Elk Valley, and relocation to the area is required. The role also offers a compressed work schedule with every other Friday off, providing additional flexibility and personal time.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day HR support, advice, and guidance to employees, supervisors, and leaders across the operation
  • Advise leaders on employee relations, performance management, and workplace matters
  • Support employee relations investigations and assist with the resolution of workplace concerns
  • Provide guidance and support related to compensation, recruitment, career development, and other HR programs
  • Support labour relations matters and work with leaders on issues arising within the operational environment
  • Assist with disability management processes and employee support as required
  • Support the delivery and administration of performance management and employee development programs
  • Build strong working relationships with employees, supervisors, leaders, and other business stakeholders
  • Maintain and support HR systems, processes, programs, and documentation
  • Prepare and analyze HR reports, metrics, and other workforce information
  • Facilitate HR workshops, training, and information sessions for supervisors and other stakeholders
  • Provide practical HR guidance while ensuring organizational policies and processes are applied appropriately
  • Handle confidential, sensitive, and employee-related information with a high degree of discretion
  • Respond effectively to changing priorities and emerging employee or operational issues
  • Support broader HR initiatives and continuous improvement activities as required
  • Participate in and adhere to organizational health and safety programs and policies

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related discipline
  • 6+ years of Human Resources experience
  • Broad HR generalist experience across areas such as employee relations, performance management, recruitment, compensation, and employee development
  • Demonstrated experience providing HR advice and support to employees, supervisors, and leaders
  • Experience working within a large operational or industrial environment
  • Strong employee relations experience, including the ability to handle sensitive and complex workplace matters
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong judgment, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive employee information with professionalism and discretion
  • Calm, adaptable, and flexible approach with the ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage multiple responsibilities
  • Experience facilitating HR workshops, training, or presentations is considered an asset
  • Experience working within a unionized environment is considered an asset
  • Previous experience within mining, natural resources, manufacturing, heavy industry, or another operational environment is considered an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • Must be willing and able to relocate to the Elk Valley and work onsite
  • Base salary of $95,000–$112,000 per year
  • Health & Lifestyle Account
  • Compressed work schedule with every other Friday off
  • Professional development and career growth opportunities

About the Location:

This position is based onsite in a small community in British Columbia’s Elk Valley, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. Relocation to the Elk Valley is required for the successful candidate.

The area offers extensive year-round outdoor recreation, including skiing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and other outdoor activities. For candidates considering a move from a larger urban centre, the Elk Valley offers a smaller-community environment and an opportunity to continue developing their career within a large, established industrial operation while enjoying greater access to the outdoors.

The location may appeal to both individuals looking for an active, outdoor-oriented lifestyle and families interested in a smaller, community-focused environment. Combined with the position's compressed work schedule and every other Friday off, the role provides additional time to take advantage of the surrounding area and activities outside of work.

Candidates should be comfortable with relocating to the Elk Valley and working onsite on a permanent basis.
