Job summary

Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) is hiring an HR Advisor to partner with first-level leaders on HR policies, processes, and lifecycle activities. You will support onboarding, performance management, and offboarding while ensuring equity and a strong employee experience across the client group.

Responsibilities include advising leaders, maintaining policy knowledge, enabling self-service and data reporting, and contributing to HR projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or other relevant degree
• Certified HR designation (CHRP/CIRC) is an asset
• Minimum 5 years' HR advisory experience
• Workday knowledge an asset
• Excellent client service in phone and written form
• Bilingual French and English mandatory
• Strong understanding of HR programs and practices

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary HR contact for first-level leaders with guidance on policies and processes
• Partner with HRBP to support stages of the HR lifecycle for assigned client group
• Provide timely, practical solutions and escalate as needed
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HR policies, programs and systems
• Support leaders with HR data, reports, and KPI tracking
• Assist HR projects, process improvement and technology usage

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Human Resources Advisor (HRA), you act as a key partner and first point of contact for first‑level leaders regarding human resources policies, processes, and practices. In close collaboration with the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP), you ensure that all aspects of the HR lifecycle are effectively supported, from onboarding through employee movement and offboarding. Through sound judgment, quality advice, and proactive solutions, the Human Resources Advisor enables leaders to confidently manage their teams while ensuring consistency, equity, and an exceptional people management experience. Furthermore, the Human Resources Advisor offers leaders and Human Resources Business partners, operational support in administrative HR tasks and processes.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

• Act as the primary HR contact for first‑level leaders, providing guidance on HR policies, processes, and people‑management practices.

• Provide administrative and operational support to HR Business Partners, including reporting, presentations, and HR initiatives aligned with business needs.
• Contribute to HR projects aimed at process improvement, standardization, and increased use of technology.
• Use HR data and insights to produce reports, track KPIs, and support informed decision‑making.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or other relevant degree
• Certified HR professional designation (CHRP/CIRC) an asset
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in human resources, especially in an advisory role
• Workday knowledge an asset
• Excellent client service skills on the phone and in writing
• Bilingualism in French and English is mandatory.
• Excellent understanding of HR programs and practices and ability to explain them to employees
• Sense of urgency and continuous improvement mindset
• Detailed-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Experience using HR Information systems and good knowledge of Microsoft Office
