Job summary

RailWorks Corporation in Ontario is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to support the HSE management system, promote a proactive safety culture, and report to the HSE Manager.

You will handle safety documentation, audits, training, and data collection, coordinate PPE purchasing, and help develop programs, while ensuring compliance with OHSAS/Act standards. This on-site role requires flexibility for travel and rotating day/night shifts.

Qualifications

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Health & Safety or relevant field.
  • Experience in a safety administrative capacity is preferred (min. two years).
  • Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations.
  • Proficient in MS Office.”
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.

Reporting to the HSE Manager, the Health & Safety Coordinator works to support the overall HSE management system in an effort to minimize safety risks and promote a proactive and positive safety culture.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provide administrative support relating to safety documented information and records management
  • Coordinates the collection of HSE data, assists in preparation of safety documents
  • Conducts safety audits and inspections
  • Coordinators purchasing of safety supplies and PPE
  • Participates in the development and implementation of HSE programs
  • Prepares various forms of HSE communications to support the HSE Management System
  • Metrics reporting and collection of data
  • Participates and conducts the Orientation training process and other safety specific training
  • Responding/fielding HSE related inquiries from PNR employee’s and external client’s
  • Prepares meeting minutes, participates and assists in safety calls, meetings and conferences
  • Participates in and supports JHSC functions, provides guidance
  • Ensures required safety bulletins and documents are posted and shared with the workforce
  • Works in collaboration with Quality Assurance and Document Control Teams to update existing procedures, plans and other related safety documents
  • Administrative duties to support the HSE team
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Completion of post-secondary education in Health & Safety or relevant field, or equivalent relevant experience (min. of two years’ experience in a safety administrative capacity)
  • Experience working in Railway/Construction Industry considered an asset
  • Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and associated regulations and standards, and applicable legislation
  • Proficient in MS office
  • Well-developed communication (oral, written and presentation) and interpersonal skills
  • Valid Driver’s License
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Flexibility for travel; visits various locations
  • Flexibility in scheduling to meet operational demands
  • Works both indoors and outdoors, exposure to all weather conditions
  • Standing, sitting, walking, speaking
  • Use of Computer/keyboard
  • Working in a safety-sensitive culture
  • This role will be on a rotating schedule with both days and night shifts
