Job summary

First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB) is hiring an experienced HR professional to support First Nations clients in implementing Financial Administration Laws and achieving FMS certification. You will tailor HR programs, provide practical guidance, and design HR training and resources to strengthen governance and workforce capabilities.

The role requires strong HR knowledge, 5+ years of experience, and fluency in English and French.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of HR experience; leadership experience is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of HR practices, employment laws, and workplace policies.
  • Experience developing HR programs, processes and tools aligned to organizational goals.
  • Proficiency with HRIS, Microsoft 365 and related workplace tech.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with First Nations clients to support FALs implementation and FMS certification prep.
  • Meet with clients to understand needs and priorities for HR support and training.
  • Provide guidance, tools and practical support to strengthen HR practices.
  • Develop HR support plans aligned with client goals and organizational needs.
  • Support performance management, employee development and succession planning.
  • Create and update job descriptions and assist with role changes.
  • Help establish processes for managing, storing and protecting HR records.
  • Develop HR resources and templates, including forms and performance tools.
  • Deliver HR training on practices, job design, performance management, and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain documentation, collaborate with colleagues to improve services, contribute to special projects.

What You Will Do:
  • Build strong relationships with First Nations clients to support the implementation of Financial Administration Laws (FALs) and preparation for Financial Management System (FMS) certification.
  • Meet with clients to understand their needs and identify priorities for Human Resources support and training.
  • Provide guidance, tools, and practical support to help clients strengthen their Human Resources practices.
  • Develop Human Resources support plans that align with client goals and organizational needs.
  • Support performance management, employee development, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Create and update job descriptions and assist clients with implementing changes to roles and responsibilities.
  • Help establish effective processes for managing, storing, and protecting Human Resources records.
  • Develop Human Resources resources and templates, including forms, work plans, and performance review tools.
  • Deliver training and learning opportunities on Human Resources practices, job design, performance management, and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, collaborate with colleagues to improve services, and contribute to special projects as assigned.
Who You Are:
  • A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPHR designation is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Human Resources; leadership experience is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of Human Resources practices, employment legislation, and workplace policies.
  • Experience developing Human Resources programs, processes, and tools that support organizational goals.
  • Comfortable using Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Microsoft 365, and other workplace technology.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of people.
  • Skilled at handling sensitive information with professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion.
  • Organized and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems proactively.
  • Experience working with First Nations governments, Indigenous organizations, or Indigenous communities is a strong asset.
  • Must be fluent in English and French (spoken and written)
  • Willing to travel including to remote locations and able to work outside regular business hours
