Job summary

First Nations Financial Management Board seeks a finance professional to support FRAP delivery, build client relationships, and advance FAL/FMS processes. You will develop training plans and remote accounting schedules, contributing to financial governance for First Nations communities.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in financial services, GAAP knowledge, and experience with reporting and internal controls; Indigenous governance context is preferred. Fluency in English; French is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; CPA designation or progress toward CPA asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience providing financial services including reporting, funding agreements, and internal controls.
  • Proficient with MS Office; Sage 300 experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP; Indigenous/government/not-for-profit experience preferred.
  • Understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture; willingness to participate in ongoing education.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of FRAP to help First Nations address overdue financial reporting and audit requirements.
  • Develop relationships with assigned clients with approved Financial Administration Law.
  • Build trust and secure buy-in to implement FAL and prepare for FMS certification.
  • Conduct FMS Support Services needs assessments and identify remote accounting opportunities.
  • With the Senior Financial Officer, develop a training plan from the needs assessment.
  • Develop a remote accounting service schedule based on readiness assessment priorities.
  • Support FAL clients to achieve FMS certification via full-cycle remote accounting services, training, and capacity development.
  • Complete any other tasks as requested by FMS Support Services management.

What You Will Do
  • Support the delivery of the Financial Reporting and Audit Preparation Services (FRAP), an FMB-led initiative designed to help First Nations address overdue financial reporting and audit requirements while strengthening financial governance and supporting economic self-determination.
  • Develop relationships with assigned clients that have an approved Financial Administration Law.
  • Build trust and secure buy-in to implement their FAL and ultimately prepare for FMS certification.
  • Conduct the FMS Support Services needs assessment and identify opportunities for remote accounting and training opportunities.
  • With the Senior Financial Officer, develop a training plan based on the information provided in the initial needs assessment.
  • Develop a remote accounting service schedule based on the priorities identified in the FMS Support Services readiness assessment.
  • Support First Nation FAL clients to achieve FMS certification via full cycle remote accounting services, training, and capacity development.
  • Complete any other tasks as requested by FMS Support Services management team.
Who You Are
  • A Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or another business-related field; A CPA designation or progress towards a CPA designation considered an asset.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in providing financial services including reporting, funding agreements, and internal controls preferably within an Indigenous, government, or not for profit environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Microsoft Office and information and data management systems; Sage 300 an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Must have an understanding, awareness and appreciation of Indigenous culture and history; Willing to participate in ongoing education and training for the role including Indigenous studies.
  • Must be fluent in English (spoken and written), French (spoken and written) an asset.

Equivalent or relevant education and/or experience may be considered.
