Job summary

Taykwa Tagamou Nation is seeking an HR Generalist to provide administrative and coordination support across HR functions, under the HR Manager. The role focuses on recruitment, onboarding, records management, HRIS, training coordination, and health & safety processes.

The position emphasizes confidentiality, respectful communication, and a positive employee experience rooted in TTN community values. Preference given to TTN applicants; competitive compensation package offered with group benefits.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in HR, Business Administration, or related field.
  • CHRP/CHRL designation (asset) and experience in HR.
  • Experience in or with a First Nation organization (asset).
  • Experience using HRIS or digital records tools (asset).
  • Minimum two years of HR administrative or generalist experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate employee personnel files (electronic and paper).
  • Coordinate recruitment activities: postings, interviews, references.
  • Prepare onboarding packages and orientations.
  • Track probation reviews, contract renewals, and training requirements.
  • Update and maintain HRIS and digital tracking systems.
  • Provide HR policy information to staff and supervisors.
  • Draft basic HR letters, notices, and forms per the HR Manager.
  • Assist with mandatory training and renewal schedules.
  • Support health and safety documentation and records.
  • Assist Payroll & Benefits Administrator during peak periods.
  • Respond to general HR inquiries and escalate complex issues.
  • Assist with HR audits, reporting, and compliance tasks.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Location: Taykwa Tagamou Nation Reports to: HR Manager
About the Role

The Human Resources Generalist provides administrative andcoordination support across HR functions to ensure consistent, efficient, andculturally grounded HR services for Taykwa Tagamou Nation. Under the directionof the HR Manager, the HR Generalist supports recruitment, onboarding, employeerecords management, HR information systems, training coordination, and health& safety processes.

This role helps maintain organized and confidential HRdocumentation, supports respectful communication with staff and supervisors,and contributes to a positive employee experience rooted in TTN communityvalues.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate employee personnel files (electronic and paper)and ensure all HR documentation is complete and up to date.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities, including job postings,applications, interviews, and reference checks.
  • Prepare onboarding packages and support new hire orientationsessions.
  • Track probation reviews, contract renewals, and trainingrequirements.
  • Update and maintain HRIS and digital tracking systems.
  • Provide employees and supervisors with accurate information aboutHR policies and processes.
  • Draft basic HR letters, notices, and forms under the direction ofthe HR Manager.
  • Assist in the coordination of mandatory training, trainingrecords, and renewal schedules.
  • Support the health and safety documentation by organizing records,tracking required training, and preparing information for the Health and SafetyCommittee.
  • Provide administrative support to the Payroll & BenefitsAdministrator during peak periods or absences.
  • Respond to general HR inquiries and direct complex issues to theHR Manager.
  • Assist with HR audits, reporting, and compliance tasks.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold professional boundariesat all times.
Qualifications
  • Certificate or diploma in Human Resources, BusinessAdministration, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education andexperience will be considered.
  • CHRP or CHRL designation (completed or in progress) — asset.
  • Experience working in or with a First Nation organization — asset.
  • Experience using HRIS or digital record-keeping tools — asset.
  • Minimum two (2) years of HR administrative or generalistexperience.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence and access to a reliablevehicle.
  • Clear Criminal Reference Check, including Judicial Matters Check.
  • Takes initiative and demonstrates a strong ability to workindependently.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiplepriorities effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitiveinformation with discretion.
  • Consistent and accurate in completing tasks and followingprocesses.
  • Professional, respectful, and able to build positive workingrelationships across departments.
  • First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain).
