Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in HR, business administration, office administration, or related field.
  • Broad HR or administrative responsibilities experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office & Outlook; ability to learn new platforms (recruitment, payroll, communications).
  • Understanding of employment laws (BC Employment Standards Act, Work Safe BC, BC Human Rights Code).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to address HR-related issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Sound judgement, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
  • Self-driven, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare employment agreements, job descriptions, onboarding packages, and employee documentation.
  • Support onboarding and orientation processes for new hires.
  • Maintain confidential employee records and personnel files.
  • Assist with benefits administration, employee enrollment, and HR reporting.
  • Monitor training requirements and coordinate training activities.
  • Help develop and improve HR processes, procedures, and resources.
  • Collaborate on resolving employee-related issues.
  • Track deadlines and ensure timely completion of information.
  • Support leadership with administrative projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with policy, procedure, and document development.
  • Provide occasional payroll support.

John Howard Society of Okanagan & Kootenay is seeking an HR & Administrative Coordinator to join our team in Kelowna, BC. This role is ideal for someone with exceptional organizational and administrative skills who enjoys supporting people, processes, and projects.

While direct experience in Human Resources is an asset, it is not required. We are looking for someone with a strong administrative foundation, excellent attention to detail, initiative, and a willingness to learn. About the Position

As the HR & Administrative Coordinator, you will support a wide range of human resources and administrative functions that help keep our organization running smoothly. You'll work closely with the Human Resources Advisor and leadership team to coordinate recruitment, onboarding, employee documentation, training administration, reporting, and operational projects.

This is a highly collaborative role that requires strong planning, communication, and follow-through skills. No two days are exactly the same, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and taking ownership of important organizational processes.

Key Responsibilities

What We're Looking For
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, Office Administration, or a related field.
  • Related experience involving a broad range of HR or administrative responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office & Outlook; ability to learn new platforms (recruitment, payroll, communications).
  • Understanding of employment laws (BC Employment Standards Act, Work Safe BC, BC Human Rights Code).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Job Conditions
  • Must be able to clear Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector).
  • Ability to work on-site, Monday to Friday business hours in downtown Kelowna office.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Completion of selected Training modules for Introduction to Homelessness Sector within first 30 days.
