Job summary

Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre (CONC) in Toronto seeks a Housing Worker to provide direct support to individuals accessing hostel and drop-in services, helping them secure safe, sustainable housing and navigate tenancy rights.

You will work with multiple teams to deliver integrated, client-centered housing solutions, including outreach to landlords, eviction prevention, and ongoing case management. This is a unionized role reporting to the Supervisor of Shelter Programs.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in social work, community services, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ housing, advocacy, and/or case management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Toronto housing system, landlord-tenant law, and community resources.
  • Experience with eviction prevention, housing outreach, and mediation.
  • Ability to engage individuals with complex needs including mental health, addictions, and justice involvement.
  • Effective written and verbal communication; teamwork in interdisciplinary settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assess client needs and develop short- and long-term plans of care.
  • Deliver one-on-one housing support including landlord outreach and securing permanent housing.
  • Provide housing-focused case management to address barriers and promote stability.
  • Conduct mediation and eviction prevention interventions as required.
  • Coordinate supports across Health & Wellness, Life Management, Income Security teams.
  • Build relationships with landlords, property managers, and housing providers.
  • Develop landlord inventory and community housing partnerships.
  • Promote housing opportunities within shelter and drop-in settings.
  • Offer system navigation and advocacy related to housing and tenancy rights.
  • Support clients in self-advocacy and independent living skills.
  • Train and support new staff, students, and volunteers as assigned.
  • Maintain complete documentation (physical files and electronic reports).
  • Participate in meetings, tenancy forums, and internal committees.
  • Assist with front desk coverage and floor support during shortages.
  • Adhere to CONC policies including confidentiality and hostel standards.
  • Attend required staff training and development opportunities.

Position Overview:

The Housing Worker provides direct support to individuals accessing CONC’s Hostel and Drop-In services, helping them find and maintain safe, sustainable housing. As a key member of the Breaking Barriers team, this role involves collaborative case management and outreach to landlords and community partners. You will work closely with the Life Management, Health & Wellness, Income Security, and Drop-In teams to deliver integrated, client-centered housing solutions.

This is a unionized position reporting to the Supervisor of Shelter Programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess client needs and develop personalized short- and long-term plans of care.
  • Deliver one-on-one housing support, including landlord outreach and securing permanent housing.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Diploma or degree in social work, community services, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience providing housing, advocacy, and/or case management support.
  • Strong knowledge of Toronto’s housing system, landlord-tenant law, and community resources.
  • Experience with eviction prevention, housing outreach, and mediation.
  • Ability to engage individuals with complex needs, including mental health, addictions, and criminal justice involvement.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Conflict resolution and crisis intervention training preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and client documentation systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and professional boundaries.
