Job summary

West Moberly First Nations is hiring a Housing Maintenance Senior Assistant to support water, sewer, grounds, and housing maintenance for WMFN residential units.

The role is full-time, in-person, 35 hours/week, with benefits, RRSP, relocation assistance, and every other Friday off. The candidate will supervise Jr Assistants and ensure safety and quality in daily tasks.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or related trade certificate.
  • Red Seal Certification and other safety tickets are assets.
  • Knowledge of First Nation Housing Program.
  • Basic knowledge of small engine repair (generator, etc.).
  • Operation of skid steer, mini excavator, towing trailers, etc. as trained/licensed.
  • Operation of basic hand and power tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with diverse audiences.
  • Valid driver’s license and driving abstract.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform vehicle, equipment, and machinery pre-trip and post-use inspections.
  • Perform Lock Out/Tag Out procedures as needed and notify Supervisor of deficiencies.
  • Check, operate and maintain all equipment, machinery, tools, PPE, etc.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment receive regular service and maintenance.
  • Evaluate maintenance requests for residential units and advise the Housing Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Assist in the repair of minor damages and conduct regular maintenance to residential units.
  • Pick up and deliver goods to town and other locations.
  • Provide guidance for Jr Assistant and summer students and ensure safe operation of equipment.
  • Lead safety meetings and document notes at new worksites.
  • Keep inventory of supplies and request replenishment as needed.
  • Provide quality control of the Community’s residential assets and services.

About the Role

The Housing Maintenance Senior Assistant is responsible for working with the Housing Maintenance staff for water, sewer, grounds and housing maintenance for the West Moberly First Nations (WMFN), within or under the residential unit. The Sr Assistant will support the Housing Maintenance Department for WMFN and its members. This role will provide quality control of the services provided to WMFN residential units and with services to clients.

This is a full-time (35 hours per week), in-person position requiring the successful candidate to be located at the lake, in Chetwynd or Hudson Hope areas. In addition, there is a robust RRSP program, a comprehensive benefits package, and, if needed, a relocation package. Key Responsibilities
WMFN Vehicles, Small Engine, Equipment, and General Maintenance
  • Perform vehicle, equipment, and machinery pre-trip and post-use inspections
  • Perform Lock Out/Tag Out procedures as needed when defective items identified in pre-use and post-use inspections, and notify Supervisor of the deficiencies for remediation
  • Check, operate and maintain all equipment, machinery, tools, safety gear, PPE, etc, as required to perform assigned duties
  • Ensure vehicles, equipment, and machinery receive regular service and maintenance, and are equipped properly for service use
  • Evaluate homeowner and tenant maintenance requests for maintenance, repairs, renovations, and/or retrofits on residential units and advise the Housing Maintenance Supervisor of problems
  • Assist in the repair of minor damages and conduct regular maintenance to residential units
Administration and Other Duties
  • Pick up and deliver goods to and from town and other locations as requested
  • Provide guidance and direction for completion of tasks given to the Jr Assistant and summer students
  • Assist Jr Assistant and summer students by showing how to properly operate equipment in accordance with WorkSafe BC and WMFN Safety Program requirements
  • Assist Housing Coordinator or Housing Maintenance Supervisor by ensuring a safety meeting is held each morning, or at a new worksite with new assigned tasks, take minutes and provide assistance on any task required
  • Keep inventory of supplies and request replenishment as needed
  • Provide quality control of the Community’s residential assets and services to its members
  • Perform related work as assigned

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills and ability to comfortably deal with people from a range of backgrounds in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Possess valid driver’s license and abstract.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
