Job Description

Position Type: Part-Time

Schedule: Monday - Wednesday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Position Purpose

The Housekeeper/Cleaner is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and attractive condition of the London Centre of Hope premises, in compliance with health and safety standards.

Accountabilities

Role Specific Responsibilities

• Store, retrieve, and catalog client belongings according to procedures.
• Complete all assigned duties per the task list.
• Clean and maintain equipment regularly.
• Assist with bed bug checks alongside the Housekeeper Lead, including bagging and tagging procedures as needed.
• Report any property or equipment damage promptly.
• Assist with wellness checks when possible.
• Follow standards, policies, and procedures of The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope.
• Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
• Suggest improvements to efficiency, working conditions, or procedures to the Support Services Manager.

Health and Safety

• Comply with OH&S Act, regulations, and Salvation Army safety policies.
• Coordinate with security to address safety needs.
• Use personal protective equipment as directed.
• Report hazards, dangers, injuries, or illnesses.
• Perform other duties as required.

Leadership Responsibility

This position reports directly to the Support Services Manager or designate.

Working Conditions

• Work hours are set by the Supervisor.
• Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs.
• Operate cleaning equipment, perform physical tasks including bending, twisting, lifting, ladder work, and fine motor skills.

Normal hours are subject to operational needs, including a ½ hour paid meal break. The primary location is at 281 Wellington Street, London, ON N6B 2L4.

Qualifications and Certifications

• Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
• Professional cleaning methods and procedures.
• Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening, satisfactory to The Salvation Army.
• Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry may be required.
• Understanding of The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose.
• Conditional employment contingent on health care provider verification of completed two-step Tuberculosis Skin Test.
• First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.

Experience and Skills

• At least two years of experience in janitorial, housekeeping, or maintenance fields.
• Proficiency with mechanized cleaning equipment.
• Supportive understanding of The Salvation Army’s mission and values.
