Job summary

Northwood is seeking a Housekeeper for our Halifax team to perform cleaning duties and help maintain a safe environment. Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services, the role includes laundry tasks and collaboration with residents and staff to ensure quality care.

The position requires 2+ years in LTC/acute care housekeeping, knowledge of floor care and WHMIS, and a commitment to regular attendance. Immediate start preferred.

Qualifications

• Must read, write, comprehend and follow instructions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
• Previous laundry experience required.
• Must maintain regular attendance per Northwood standard.
• Ability to work with others including residents and staff.
• 2+ years in housekeeping in LTC or acute care.

Northwood is currently accepting applications for a Housekeeper to join our Halifax team!

Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services the Housekeeper performs cleaning duties while helping to support and provide a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of Grade X or equivalent.
• Must be able to read, write, comprehend and follow through on specific instructions.
• Ability to lift, pull, push and move heavy equipment and heavy furniture on a regular daily basis (50lbs).
• Good personal hygiene.
• Previous laundry experience.
• Must have regular and consistent attendance in accordance with the Northwood corporate standard.
• Ability to work well with others including: co-workers, supervisors and residents.
• Ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
• Must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in the housekeeping field in a Long Term Care or Acute Care environment.
• Must have knowledge of floor stripping, WHMIS, carpet care, and refinishing floors.

Responsibilities:

• Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas.
• Collect and transport garbage, recycling with the ability to push/pull large carts.
• Performs periodic floor and carpet maintenance in accordance with established procedures and prescribed techniques.
• Operates washers and dryers adhering to established formulas and manufacturer's instructions.
• Assists, as necessary, in other laundry duties such as folding, untangling, pressing, packages, and the distribution of clean linen/laundry.
• Cleans and maintains washing and drying equipment for use in linen/laundry including the linen and laundry rooms.
• Follows safe work practices for chemical use including proper labeling, storage and use. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is used as recommended on Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Maintains cleanliness, orderliness and general repair of equipment and work area.
• Completes project/special cleaning, in areas as assigned by the supervisor.
• Complete specific set-ups for special functions.
• Completes office moves - transporting of desks, cabinets and other furniture from one area to another as requested by supervisors.
• Other duties as assigned.

Hours of work:

32 Hours Biweekly (8 Hour shifts)
