Job summary

Northwood is seeking a Housekeeper to join the Halifax team and help maintain a clean, safe environment for residents and staff. You will also handle laundry tasks and assist with general cleaning to support daily operations.

We look for candidates with at least 2 years in housekeeping, experience in Long Term Care or Acute Care, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and strong personal hygiene. Regular attendance and teamwork are essential in this inclusive workplace.

Qualifications

• Must have regular and consistent attendance.
• 2+ years in housekeeping in a Long Term Care or Acute Care environment.
• Ability to lift, pull, push and move heavy equipment and furniture (up to 50 lbs) on a daily basis.
• Good personal hygiene and reliability.
• Experience with laundry tasks preferred.

Northwood is currently accepting applications for a Housekeeper to join our Halifax team!

Qualifications

• Minimum of Grade X or equivalent.
• Must be able to read, write, comprehend and follow through on specific instructions.
• Ability to lift, pull, push and move heavy equipment and heavy furniture on a regular daily basis (50lbs).
• Good personal hygiene.
• Previous laundry experience.
• Must have regular and consistent attendance in accordance with the Northwood corporate standard.
• Ability to work well with others including: co-workers, supervisors and residents.
• Ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
• Must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in the housekeeping field in a Long Term Care or Acute Care environment.
• Must have knowledge of floor stripping, WHMIS, carpet care, and refinishing floors.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas.
• Collect and transport garbage, recycling with the ability to push/pull large carts.
• Performs periodic floor and carpet maintenance in accordance with established procedures and prescribed techniques.
• Operates washers and dryers adhering to established formulas and manufacturer’s instructions.
• Assists, as necessary, in other laundry duties such as folding, untangling, pressing, packages, and the distribution of clean linen/laundry.
• Cleans and maintains washing and drying equipment for use in linen/laundry including the linen and laundry rooms.
• Follows safe work practices for chemical use including proper labeling, storage and use. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is used as recommended on Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Maintains cleanliness, orderliness and general repair of equipment and work area.
• Completes project/special cleaning, in areas as assigned by the supervisor.
• Complete specific set-ups for special functions.
• Completes office moves - transporting of desks, cabinets and other furniture from one area to another as requested by supervisors.
• Other duties as assigned.
