TheHousekeeper at Phoenix Society performs heavy to light cleaning duties to ensure that the suites and common areas in the facility are in a clean and orderly condition, working in tandem with other janitorial staff and volunteers. Key responsibilities include:
- Cleaning floors
- Shampooing rugs
- Washing walls and windows
- Removing garbage
- Cleaning appliances
- Notifying management when supplies or repairs are required
Responsibilities
Custodial Services
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
- Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors as required
- Gather and empty all garbage, recycling, and compost bins
- Service, clean, and supply restrooms
- Clean and polish furniture, fixtures, and appliances
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
- Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment
- Steam-clean and/or shampoo carpets or rugs
- Make beds and keep linens in stock as needed
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment
- Perform other duties as requested
Maintenance Services
- Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after cleaning and checking electrical appliances to ensure hazards are not created
- Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs, minor renovations, or building operating system service
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
- Maintain and organize cleaning equipment, materials, and supplies
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
- Successful completion of Grade 12
- 1 to 3 years of related experience providing custodial and/or housekeeping services
- Related post-secondary and WHMIS training is an asset
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required
- Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required
- Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is required
- First Aid certification with CPR is required
Skills & Knowledge
- Fluent and able to effectively communicate professionally, both orally and written
- Demonstrated experience in custodial services and/or housekeeping
- Ability to perform heavy to light cleaning duties including heavy lifting, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods of time
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational and time management skills with a high attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performance
- Ability to work independently and contribute to team settings
- Flexibility to work during evenings and weekends, and be on call, as needed
