Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority in Eastern Memorial Hospital is seeking a Cook I to prepare and cook food for patient menus, following quantity recipes and quality standards while maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation.

This permanent full-time role (75 hours biweekly) requires Grade 12, Food Safety Level 1, and one year of recent cooking experience, with potential for shifts including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent required.
• Food Safety Level 1 (Food Handlers) required.
• Recognized Food Safety and Sanitation Course required or willingness to obtain within six months.
• One year recent cooking experience required.
• Knowledge of food handling and safety practices in an institutional kitchen.
• Knowledge of therapeutic diets is an asset.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to hold in confidence all matters pertaining to patients, employees and the business of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook food for patient/menu as required, following recipes and quality standards.
