Job summary

Bridge Machine in Canada is seeking an experienced Honing Machinist to set up and operate industrial honing equipment for hydraulic cylinder barrels and related components, ensuring tight tolerances and proper surface finishes. You will read drawings, select honing tools, adjust speeds and feeds, and measure bores with precision tools.

You’ll inspect finished work and collaborate with machinists, welders, and the production team to meet quality standards.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years machining and honing experience.
• Experience reading drawings and specs.
• Knowledge of hydraulic cylinder honing and bore geometry.

What You'll Do

As our Honing Machinist, you'll be responsible for precision honing of hydraulic cylinder barrels, tubes, and other components to achieve the required dimensions, geometry, and surface finishes.

Your work will include:

• Setting up and operating industrial honing equipment for hydraulic cylinder barrels, tubes, and related components
• Honing internal diameters to specified dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish requirements
• Reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, work orders, and technical information
• Selecting appropriate honing tools, stones, speeds, feeds, and operating parameters
• Measuring bores accurately using precision measuring equipment
• Monitoring dimensions and surface condition throughout the honing process and making adjustments as required
• Identifying conditions such as taper, out-of-round, scoring, wear, and other bore defects
• Inspecting completed work to ensure it meets Bridge Machine's quality requirements
• Working closely with machinists, welders, and other members of the production team on repair and manufacturing requirements
• Safely rigging, positioning, and moving large components using overhead cranes and material-handling equipment
• Completing required production and inspection documentation
• Performing routine equipment checks and basic preventative maintenance
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Following all company quality, safety, and operating procedures

What You Bring

We're interested in experienced machinists who understand that precision work requires patience, judgment, and attention to detail.

Ideally, you'll bring:

• 3–5+ years of machining and/or honing experience
• Previous experience operating industrial honing equipment
• Experience with hydraulic cylinders, large-bore or long-bore honing is a strong asset
• Strong understanding of machining tolerances, bore geometry, and surface finish
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical specifications
• Confidence using precision measuring and inspection equipment
• Experience identifying and correcting taper, out-of-round conditions, and surface imperfections
• Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills
• Experience working with overhead cranes and safely handling large components
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative shop environment
• A strong commitment to quality and safe work practices

A Red Seal Machinist certification is an asset, but not required. We value demonstrated honing and machining capability and will consider equivalent hands-on experience.
