Job summary

Lookout Housing and Health Society seeks a Homemaker to clean and maintain residential and shelter spaces, ensuring tidiness for residents and staff. You will assist clients with personal care and nutrition while supporting volunteers and donation organization.

Successful applicants will complete respirator fit testing and comply with WorkSafeBC requirements, including maintaining a clean-shaven face for respirator seals.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 education plus one year of related experience or equivalent.
  • Must have current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate.
  • Crisis Intervention Skills Training is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Clean rooms, change and make beds, do laundry, keep supplies organized and stocked.
  • General cleaning of rooms, laundry, and areas such as walls, windows, floors, bathrooms.
  • Organize donations and supervise volunteers.
  • Assist clients with personal hygiene and nutrition as needed.
  • Ensure safety rules are followed and shifts are covered.

7 minute walk from Olympic Village Station

Days and Hours of work

7 days a week, day, afternoon/evening and overnight shifts, weekdays, weekends and holidays

Shifts are 7.5 hours in length

Days of rest shall be consecutive. Schedule may change with two weeks’ notice

Probationary/qualifying period will be 488 hours with mid and end point reviews

Salary

$23.89 - 25.54 depending upon applicants' length of seniority (as per the Collective Agreement)

Job Summary

The Homemaker reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. The Homemaker performs a variety of cleaning duties ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of resident and/or shelter rooms and communal areas.

This position requires successful completion of respirator fit testing, as Lookout is COR (Certificate of Recognition) certified and must comply with WorkSafeBC health and safety requirements. To ensure a proper respirator seal during fit testing and use, employees are required to be clean-shaven where the respirator seals against the face.

Job Duties
  • Clean rooms, change and make beds, do laundry, keep supplies organized and stocked, keep personal care supplies organized
  • General cleaning, laundry, washing, and disinfecting areas such as walls, windows, ceilings, floors, carpets, air vents, furniture, mattresses, blinds, and washrooms
  • Organize donations and oversee and direct volunteers
  • Assist clientele with personal hygiene and nutrition as needed
  • Employees are expected to remain alert and attentive during working hours. Sleeping during shifts is not permitted
  • Responsible for complying with and contributing to all aspects of health and safety program
Qualifications & Competence
  • Minimum Grade 12 education plus one (1) year of recent related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Must have current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate
  • Crisis Intervention Skills Training is an asset
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting
  • Ability to manage and organize workload
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Must understand and maintain clientele/worker boundaries
  • Ability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment
  • Quick learner and self-motivated
  • Strong physical and mental ability to perform work tasksMust be able to operate job related equipment such as laundry machines, etc.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of sobriety if you have had concerns related to alcohol and/or drug use
  • Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector
