Government of Alberta, Ministry of Tourism and Sport, is seeking a part-time Historical Interpreter for Rutherford House Provincial Historic Site in Edmonton. You will deliver engaging storytelling and programming, and provide exceptional visitor experiences while supporting events and education initiatives.

The role requires a High School Diploma, availability for evenings/weekends, and certifications such as First Aid, ProServe, and a vulnerable sector check.

Rutherford House Provincial Historic Site was the home of the first Premier of Alberta, Alexander Cameron Rutherford. In 1911, A.C. Rutherford, his wife Mattie and their family moved into this beautiful brick mansion near the university campus. The family entertained friends, relatives and influential Edmontonians for more than a generation. Today, this restored and furnished Edwardian-era home maintains the Rutherford tradition of hospitality and offers visitors a glimpse into the past with costumed interpreters, guided tours and special events.

As a Historical Interpreter at Rutherford House Provincial Historic Site, you will combine storytelling, customer service, and public engagement to connect visitors with Alberta’s rich history. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will deliver engaging programs, provide exceptional visitor experiences, and help foster a deeper appreciation for our province’s heritage.

You will be responsible for:

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma.

Preference may be given to candidates with Post–secondary education and or/experience in the following fields: Historical Interpretation, Education, Canadian History, Language Arts, Dramatic and Performing Arts, Marketing and/or Recreation Administration.

Must-Haves:

• Ability to provide proof of First Aid certification prior to employment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain ProServe certification prior to employment.
• Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends.
• Strong interest in history, heritage, public education, and visitor engagement.
• Ability to deliver engaging presentations and interact confidently with diverse audiences.
