Job summary

Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS) invites applications for a HIPPY Home Visitor on a part-time, contract basis. The role supports newcomer families with preschoolers through in-home visits and community connections in a hybrid work setting.

You will conduct weekly visits, model HIPPY activities, help families access resources, and maintain records. A high school diploma and experience with families are required, with additional language skills valued.

Position: HIPPY Home Visitor

Hours: Contract part-time, 25 hrs/week

Location: Hybrid

Compensation: $25.50

Contract Length: September 2026 to July 2027

Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS) is seeking a compassionate and community-minded HIPPY Home Visitor to support families with preschool-aged children in the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program.

Working closely with newcomer, low-income, and socially isolated families, the Home Visitor helps parents build confidence as their child's first teacher while supporting children's school readiness, family wellbeing, and access to community resources.

What You'll Do

• Conduct weekly home visits with participating families

• Introduce and model HIPPY learning activities for parents

• Encourage parents to support their child's learning at home

• Build trusting relationships and provide ongoing support to families

• Connect families to community resources and services

• Assist with group meetings, family events, field trips, and celebrations

• Represent PIRS at community outreach events and activities

What You Bring

• High school diploma and relevant experience working with families, children, or community programs

• Lived experience as a parent of a young child (ages 3–5) is a strong asset

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to motivate, encourage, and build positive relationships

• Strong organizational and time-management skills

• Flexibility and adaptability when working with diverse families

• Additional language skills reflective of the communities served are highly valued

Working Conditions

• Contract part-time position (25 hours/week), dependent on program funding

• Community-based work involving home visits, outreach, and group activities

• Regular travel throughout the service area

• Regular home visits with families in a variety of home environments, requiring professionalism, cultural sensitivity, sound judgment, and adherence to organizational policies, confidentiality standards, and safety protocols

• Occasional evening and weekend activities

• Criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check is required
