Job summary

Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools (NLPS) is seeking a skilled Secondary Teacher for a full-time continuing 1.0 FTE vacancy in Ladysmith Secondary School, specializing in Junior Science/Math and French Immersion, to commence as soon as practicable or by February 2027.

The role requires BC teaching certification, a Bachelor’s in Education, and experience teaching at the secondary level, with emphasis on Indigenous perspectives and inclusive practice.

Qualifications

• Certified through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education required.
• Required course load for a particular subject area at the high school level (12 UBC units, second year or greater).
• Successful classroom teacher experience and/or pre-service experience in a secondary school setting.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning.
• Knowledge of colonization effects in education and Indigenous perspectives in curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruction of courses for presentation to students according to BC’s Curriculum.
• Teach using a systematic plan of lessons, discussions, and experiences.
• Lead students in activities to promote self-awareness of core competencies.
• Embed First Peoples Principles of Learning in instruction.
• Assess students and report progress according to NLPS guidelines and Ministry standards.
• Communicate student learning in a timely, responsive manner.
• Identify diverse needs and provide differentiated instruction.
• Provide direction and support to Educational Assistants and pre-service teachers.
• Support inquiry-based learning (PLC).
• Support school plans and district-wide assessments implementation.
