Job summary

Rocky View Schools invites applications for a continuing, full-time Learning Assistant at Bert Church High School in Airdrie, starting immediately. You will support diverse learners in classroom, school and community settings, collaborating with teachers to adapt programs for students with complex needs to promote health, learning and independence.

The position requires an Educational Assistant certificate or related diploma, training in behaviour management, and a willingness to obtain

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or a certificate/diploma in a related field.
• Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour, or willingness to become certified
• Minimum one (1) year experience working with students with challenging behavior and applying positive behavior supports is considered and asset
• CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified is considered an asset
• An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance to identified students including personal, medical care, lifts, transfers and safety needs
• Implements strategies as directed by teachers and student plans
• Records observations and data on behavioral challenges to guide positive strategies
• Participates in collaborative planning meetings for student planning
• Provides assistance with preparation of individualized program materials
• Promotes student learning, belonging and independence
• Assists with emotional/behavioural regulation per student plans
• Respects confidentiality and maintains privacy of student and staff information
• Supports routine personal care activities and daily living
• Assists in exercise, adaptive physical education and motor skills development
• Supports medical needs including transfers, tube feeding, tracheotomy, oxygen, catheterization and medications
