Job summary

NMS Recruit Ltd is seeking an experienced HGV Technician to join a busy workshop in Town of Oxford, Nova Scotia. You will service, inspect and repair heavy commercial vehicles, ensuring safety and roadworthiness while complying with DVSA standards.

The role requires robust diagnostic skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a supportive environment. A valid driving licence is essential; an HGV licence is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as HGV Technician or similar role.
  • Qualified to Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
  • Complete scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance in line with DVSA requirements.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using diagnostic equipment.
  • Repair and replace components including brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions and electrical systems.
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure they meet all required roadworthiness standards.
  • Attend vehicle breakdowns when required.
  • Accurately complete job cards, inspection sheets and compliance documentation.
  • Identify additional defects and report any required repairs.
  • Ensure work is completed efficiently while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Keep tools, equipment and the workshop clean, organised and properly maintained.

Job description

You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a varied range of heavy commercial vehicles, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest possible standard. This role would suit a qualified technician who takes pride in their workmanship and enjoys working as part of a skilled and supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience working as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Heavy Vehicle Technician
  • A recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent experience
  • Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills
  • Good knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team
  • A reliable, organised and safety-focused approach
  • A full UK driving licence
  • An HGV licence would be advantageous but is not essential
