Job summary

Brandt Group of Companies seeks a Heavy Equipment Technician for our Thunder Bay Construction & Forestry location. You will diagnose, repair and service heavy‑duty equipment, order parts, and document work on orders with a focus on safety and efficiency.

Applicants should have previous heavy equipment experience and a Journeyperson designation in the Heavy Duty Equipment trade, plus comfort with service software like John Deere Service Advisor. On-site role with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Prior heavy equipment experience strongly preferred.
• Strong customer service mindset and commitment to service excellence.
• Experience with electrical diagnosis and troubleshooting is an asset.
• Experience with aftertreatment systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate working condition, diagnose, repair heavy‑duty equipment, and order parts.
• Safely use tools and related equipment; document actions and time on work orders.
• Perform maintenance using computerised systems and parts catalogs.
• Road test equipment and verify operation after repairs.
• Assess task hazards and ensure work performed to safety standards.

What You Will Be Responsible For

• Efficiently and effectively evaluate the working condition of, diagnose, assemble/disassemble, order parts for, and repair heavy-duty equipment
• Use secondary materials and equipment safely and efficiently
• Use related instruments, hand and power tools, secondary equipment, and computer systems
• Accurately and completely document on work orders all machine information, actions taken, and time taken
• Continually assess service task hazards and ensure work is performed safely, and to accepted standards
• Use computer applications and information systems (i.e. John Deere Service Advisor) to document maintenance, inspection, and diagnosis
• Use parts catalogues to locate parts, and order parts from parts personnel
• Road test equipment and check attachment operation as required

What We Look For

• Previous mechanical experience in a heavy equipment environment is preferred
• Certified Journeyperson in the Heavy Duty Equipment technician trade or equivalent designated trade preferred
• Previous mechanical experience in a heavy equipment environment considered an asset
• Experience with electrical diagnosis /troubleshooting and aftertreatment systems considered an asset
• Must be committed to customer service and service excellence
