Job summary

Thorhild County Public Works Department is seeking a Heavy Equipment Technician to perform maintenance and repairs on a range of equipment, including trucks and fire equipment. The role requires a journeyperson certificate or 3rd year apprenticeship, plus CVIP license and a valid Class 5 driver’s license, with on-call rotation.

The position offers a 40-hour work week, unionized setting (IUOE Local 955) and a comprehensive benefits program.

Qualifications

Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician Certificate preferred or minimum 3rd Year Apprentice.
Valid Alberta CVIP Inspection License.
Standard First Aid or willing to obtain.
Class 5 driver’s license.
Experience operating power and hand tools and various heavy equipment.
Criminal Records Check, Driver’s Abstract and Fitness to Work Assessment required.

Responsibilities

Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, fire equipment, agricultural equipment and trailers.
Diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and engine issues.
Perform Commercial Vehicle inspections to meet safety and regulatory requirements.
Inspect equipment and identify maintenance needs proactively.
Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports and repair documentation.
Assist in all duties as directed; participate in on-call schedule on a rotation basis.
