Job summary

Stephenson’s Rental Services in Mississauga, Ontario is seeking a Heavy Equipment Road Technician to inspect, diagnose and repair on-site equipment, ensuring the fleet remains reliable and customers stay on schedule.

You will read manuals and schematics, follow safety SOPs, operate equipment when necessary, and support Service Technicians while promoting safety, product knowledge, and quality workmanship. A valid driver's license and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of Heavy Equipment repair or related experience.
• Heavy equipment trades certification is an asset
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis
• G Class (ON)/Class 5 (AB) Driver’s License with clean record
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to work independently
• Experience with Health and Safety training is an asset (WHMIS etc.)

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses and repairs construction and aerial equipment on customer sites.
• Ensures equipment is rental-ready and meets quality and safety standards.
• Reads owners’ manuals and schematics and follows checklists/procedures.
• Operates and tests equipment under actual conditions when possible.
• Provides guidance to Service Technicians on required service/repairs.
• Assists in equipment retirement decisions.
• Maintains PPE and safety compliance on customer sites.
• Maintains inventory control documents for the rental management system.

How you’ll contribute

The Heavy Equipment Road Technician is helping customers on site maintain a strong and reliable fleet. With safety at the forefront, we inspect, test, and diagnose each piece of equipment and repair on site to keep our customers’ jobs moving. Responsibilities include:

• Diagnoses and repairs all of Stephenson’s construction and aerial equipment on customer construction sites as it relates to various diesel, hydraulic and electrical equipment, including Skid Steers, Mini Excavators, Aerial Reach Equipment and towable equipment.
• Ensures that all equipment is rental‑ready and meets set quality and safety standards and ensures all equipment is in working order on customer sites.
• Follow the appropriate checklist and procedures. Can read and refer to owners’ manuals and schematics.
• Operate and test equipment (under actual operating conditions, if possible).
• Provide guidance to Service Technicians on the appropriate service/repairs required.
• Assist in making decisions related to equipment retirement.
• Possess excellent product knowledge and can effectively transfer this knowledge to customers. This includes explaining features and benefits, safe operating techniques and promoting related accessories/products.
• Ensure every customer is treated in a fair and consistent manner, resolving issues as they arise.
• Follow all paperwork and computer procedure related to servicing of equipment.
• Maintain all inventory control documents to preserve the integrity of the rental management computer system.

What you bring to the table

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of Heavy Equipment repair or related experience.
• Heavy equipment trades certification is an asset
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis
• G Class (ON)/Class 5 (AB) Provincial Driver’s License and clean Drivers Abstract.
• Must possess a mechanical aptitude and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience with Health and Safety training is an asset (i.e. WHMIS, etc.).
• Action-oriented with attention to detail and a focus on quality and safety.
• Bona fide job requirement that you wear the following PPE safely and as per regulations:
• Hard hat
• Steel toed boots
• High Vis vest or uniform
• Safety glasses
