Job summary

County of Grande Prairie is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Operations West team to operate rubber tire backhoe out of Beaverlodge shop. The role covers heavy equipment operation including grader, paver, gravel truck, loader and bobcat, with potential for general labour and asphalt patching experience preferred.

The position runs 44 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 7:00–4:30, in Beaverlodge, Alberta, with occasional evenings or extra hours for special projects.

Qualifications

• Class 5 license required with clean abstract.
• Class 1 license is an asset and may be required for some equipment.
• Experience operating heavy equipment (loader, skidsteer, packer, etc.).
• Ability to operate a transit and tow a trailer.
• Willingness to work long hours including weekends when required.
• Strong communication with coworkers and the public.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 and computer use is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of heavy equipment safely and appropriately.
• Maintain and secure equipment per policies and legislation.
• Operate backhoe for culvert work and ditch cleaning tasks.
• Assist with snow removal as needed.
• Keep detailed records of work performed and locations.
• Communicate with coworkers and supervisors; participate in safety meetings.
• Interact courteously with the public and colleagues.
