Job summary

The County of Grande Prairie is seeking a full-time Heavy Equipment Operator for the Operations West team to operate rubber-tire backhoe at the Beaverlodge shop, with duties including grading, paving, loading, bobcat use and occasional labour. You will work 44 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 4:30 pm, in Beaverlodge, Alberta.

A Class 5 license is required; Class 1 is an asset for some equipment.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 5 driver license and clean abstract.
• Class 1 license is an asset and may be required for some equipment.
• Ability to operate a transit vehicle.
• Experience towing a trailer.
• Willingness to work long hours including weekends.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment (loader, skidsteer, etc.).
• Experience with Microsoft 365 and computer use.

Responsibilities

• Operate various pieces of heavy equipment safely.
• Maintain and secure equipment as directed by policies.
• Install and replace culverts using backhoe and perform ditch cleaning tasks.
• Support snow removal operations with equipment.
• Keep detailed records of work performed (loads, locations, inventory).
• Communicate with coworkers and supervisors; participate in safety meetings.
