Job Description

Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Reports To: Service Manager/Shop Foreman/Service Advisor

Hours and Pay Schedule: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. This position is non-exempt.

Company Overview: Haaker Equipment Company employs approximately 90 employees across five branches in La Verne, Santee, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Central Valley. Job Summary: This role requires general mechanical experience. The individual will work under the supervision of the Service Manager, Shop Foreman, and Service Advisor, receiving daily work assignments and scheduling tasks. Effective communication with customers and staff regarding repairs is essential.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Perform repairs on customer equipment as directed, in indoor or outdoor environments.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on customer and company-owned equipment.
  • Accurately report and track work hours.
  • Complete repair orders efficiently and accurately.
  • Diagnose and perform repairs, determining necessary tools and equipment.
  • Operate and monitor equipment to diagnose issues.
  • Inspect equipment for additional repairs.
  • Position parts and equipment safely, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Tag parts for warranty repairs per factory guidelines.
  • Create parts lists for repairs.
  • Read electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Notify supervisors if additional work is needed or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised timeframe.
  • Supervise apprentice technicians as assigned.
  • Maintain 90% billable hours.
  • Perform basic fabrication tasks such as cutting, measuring, torching, and welding.
  • Keep the shop and work areas clean and organized.
  • Stay updated with factory training, tech tips, and service bulletins.
  • Follow all safety policies and report safety issues promptly.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of mechanical experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical systems, or heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment systems.
  • Ability to identify component failures and perform quality repairs.
  • Good communication skills with customers and team members.
  • Ability to obtain a Class B license within 120 days of hire.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and work in various physical positions.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Over 5 years of relevant mechanical experience.
  • Experience with our product lines preferred.
