Job Overview
Our Emergency Response division in Bowmanville is seeking a Heavy Equipment (Excavator) Operator to join its team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate various equipment including excavator, mini excavator, skid steer, and backhoe.
- Mitigate hazardous-material incidents.
- Perform chemical transfers and participate in chemical firefighting tasks.
- Respond to emergencies as required.
- Participate in job-specific and health & safety training.
- Operate equipment efficiently and safely.
- Participate in confined space rescue work.
- Complete documentation and reporting related to work.
- Follow organizational policies and procedures.
- Support the organization's vision and values.
- Promote a work environment free of harassment and violence.
- Perform work safely to prevent endangerment.
- Report hazards, accidents, or other risks.
- Adhere to relevant safety legislation and standards.
- Participate in team meetings as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and minimize risks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Post-secondary education in a related field preferred.
- NFPA 472 Hazardous Material Operations certification.
- NFPA 1001 Level 1 or 2 certification.
- Availability for on-call emergency response.
- Experience with hazardous materials or environmental work is an asset.
- Vacuum truck experience is an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Confined space awareness.
- Reliable transportation.
- Willingness to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Participation in drug & alcohol testing as required.
- Professional, trustworthy, customer-focused.
- Motivated, service and team-oriented, with attention to detail.
- Valid First Aid / CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
- Bilingual in English/French or other languages is an asset.
