Job summary

GFL Environmental in Cranbrook, BC, is seeking a Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to maintain and repair a fleet of diesel, CNG, and electric trucks and heavy equipment. You will perform planned maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure accurate work orders and parts procurement.

The role requires a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic with at least 1 year of experience, physical capability to lift up to 100 lbs, and the willingness to operate various vehicles and equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical diploma desired.
• 1+ year experience as a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic.
• Safety-sensitive functions per company standards.
• Follow detailed instructions, work independently and maintain accurate records.
• Willingness to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform job.
• Exert physical effort up to 100 lbs; lift, push, pull.
• Kneel, crawl and climb as needed.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance or repairs of diesel, CNG, gas and electrically operated trucks and heavy equipment.
• Use power tools and precision instruments for repairs.
• Complete daily reports, work orders and order parts as needed.
• Plan repairs in M5 planner and procure parts.
• Assist in reviewing write-ups and coordinate repair schedules.

A Day in the Life* of a Mechanic:

• Maintenance or repairs of diesel, CNG, gas and electrically operated trucks as well as associated heavy duty equipment
• Using various power tools, hand instruments and cutting-edge equipment
• Completing daily reports, work orders and ordering necessary parts
• Planning and scheduling repairs in M5 planner and procure parts
• Assisting in the review of mechanical write-ups and coordinate repair schedule

What’s Required:

Mechanics must have:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical diploma desired
• 1+ year experience as a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic
• Relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards
• Follow detailed instructions, work independently and maintain accurate records
• Willingness to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform job
• Exert physical effort including pushing, pulling, bending and lifting items up to 100 lbs.
• Use fine motor coordination with arm, hand, finger and leg dexterity
• Ability to kneel, crawl and climb
