Job description

Introduction

Brunel is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our mining client's team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Maintenance, the Mechanic, Heavy Duty, will work with the Maintenance team and be responsible for providing mechanical support and expertise to all areas of underground and surface operations. This position requires thorough knowledge of maintenance and repair of mining equipment and the motivation to work in a challenging environment with minimal supervision. The role involves following technical instructions, utilizing manuals, and adhering to health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

1. Ensure projects are completed meticulously, meeting all budget and time constraints.
2. Repair surface and underground mechanical equipment promptly and responsibly.
3. Interpret work orders and technical manuals.
4. Overhaul, maintain, service, and recondition mining equipment.
5. Troubleshoot and inspect equipment to identify faults and malfunctions.
6. Assess the extent of repairs needed.
7. Adjust equipment and replace defective parts as necessary.
8. Test repaired equipment for proper operation.
9. Perform cleaning, lubrication, and other maintenance tasks.
10. Provide guidance and training to mechanics and other departments as needed.
11. Assist in forecasting parts requirements.
12. Recommend repair methods and suggest improvements.

Requirements

1. Interprovincial Heavy Duty Trade Certification or a relevant mechanical diploma.
2. Minimum 2-3 years of experience with heavy-duty equipment.
3. Alimak experience is an asset.
4. Valid Red Seal certification in a relevant trade; proof required upon application.
5. Eligibility for a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL Card) for handling explosives.
6. Experience in safety-sensitive environments; explosives experience is an asset.
7. Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.

Schedule & Transportation

1. Rotation: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off at a remote camp.
2. Fly-in Fly-out (FIFO) with pick-up locations in Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and La Ronge.
3. Shifts: Alternating 2-week periods of day shifts (6:00 AM - 6:00 PM) and night shifts (6:00 PM - 6:00 AM).

Substance Testing

1. This is a safety-sensitive role; pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is required.
2. Testing includes marijuana (THC), which can remain in the system for up to 30 days.
3. All testing complies with company policy and safety regulations.
