Job summary

STRIVE is recruiting for a Shop Heavy Duty Mechanic in Sooke/Victoria for a daytime, Monday–Friday role with overtime on-call. The candidate will perform assembly, disassembly, and repair of hydraulic components, cranes, lifts, and mobile equipment in a non-union setting.

10+ variables include Red Seal preferred and on-site work. Produce quality maintenance, diagnostics, and OEM-compliant repairs while maintaining strong client relationships.

Qualifications

  • Must have on-site work capability.
  • Red Seal certification preferred (Commercial Transport, Heavy Duty Mechanic, or Millwright).
  • Minimum 3+ years in heavy-duty mechanic roles servicing cranes, hydraulic systems, and mobile equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, able to fill out worksheets and coordinate with the team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and maintenance per OEM specifications.
  • Diagnose equipment by observation, listening, and using precision tools.
  • Ensure proper operation of equipment through checks and testing.
  • Replace or repair defective parts and troubleshoot production breakdowns.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance.
  • Interpret technical manuals to ensure warranty compliance.
  • Execute scheduled PMs and safety inspections.
  • Maintain maintenance schedules and CMMS records.
  • Maintain client relationships during shop visits.

The Role

Our client in the heavy-duty space is looking for a Shop Heavy Duty Mechanic in a non-unionized environment in Sooke/Victoria. This role is a daytime position with a starting time at 7 AM or 8 AM, Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime for any on-call emergencies and no weekend work. Preference is given to those in the heavy-duty mechanic, commercial transport, and millwright trades. Preference is given to those holding a Red Seal certificate.

Performing assembly, disassembly, and repair of hydraulic components, cranes, lifts, and additional mobile equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on equipment in accordance with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
  • Diagnose equipment by locating sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems, and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Ensure proper operation of equipment through checks and tests. Replace or repair defective parts in equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production breakdowns.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Interpret technical manuals to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and warranty requirements.
  • Execute routine scheduled Planned Maintenance (PM) services, appraisals, and Safety Inspections.
  • Use of computerized maintenance management software (CMMS). Developing maintenance schedules for major and minor equipment as well as facility needs (PM’s)
  • Maintain client relationships with professional interactions during client drop-bys at the shop.
Requirements
  • Comfortable working fully on-site.
  • Red Seal certification in Commercial Transport, Heavy Duty Mechanic, or Millwright preferred. 4th Class welcome.
  • 3+ years of experience in a heavy-duty mechanic space, performing repairs on cranes, skid steers, hydraulic systems, engines, and mobile equipment. Welding and electrical knowledge is a strong asset.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with the technician team and fill out worksheets.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, allowing for efficient identification and resolution of equipment issues.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and also be proactive and work on one's own initiative.
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Time management and priority management skills.
  • Has own tools.

  • $40 to $45 depending on experience.
