Job summary

Western Forest Products is seeking a certified Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our Ladysmith Sawmill Operation in Ladysmith, BC. This unionized PPWC position offers a wage rate of $47.69/hour plus shift premiums and benefits.

Responsibilities include inspecting, diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical systems on mobile fleet, maintaining logs, and ensuring a tidy shop. Red Seal certification and a BC driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

  • Must be fully ticketed Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic.
  • Valid BC driver’s license and ability to provide a driver’s abstract.

  • Participate and follow Western’s health and safety program and policies.
  • Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical & electrical on mobile fleet.
  • Work with dealers/vendors on maintaining inventory on critical components of equipment.
  • Perform minor welding repairs on equipment.
  • Ensure equipment repair log books are up to date and accurate.
  • Maintain a organized and clean shop.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Are you a certified trades person looking to join a “best in class” maintenance team? Western Forest Products is hiring for a Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our Ladysmith Sawmill Operation located in Ladysmith, BC.


What We Offer:


  • This is a PPWC unionized position with a wage rate of $47.69/hour as per the collective agreement

  • Hourly premiums of $0.60/hour on shifts that are outside the recognized day shift

  • Health & Dental Benefits provided through the union

  • Pension plan provided through the union

  • A safe work environment


Shifts:

Shifts can be days, afternoons, graveyards or weekends and could change at any time depending on seniority and operational needs. Please inquire within to learn more.


This position is considered safety sensitive, the successful candidate will be subject to a pre-employment drug test.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Participate and follow westerns health and safety program and policies;

  • Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical & electrical on mobile fleet;

  • Work with dealers/vendors on maintaining inventory on critical components of equipment;

  • Perform minor welding repairs on equipment;

  • Ensure equipment repair log books are up to date and accurate;

  • Maintain a organized and clean shop;

  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience


  • Must be fully ticketed Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic;

  • All applicants must have a valid BC driver's license and be able to provide a driver's abstract.


Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies


  • Preference will be given to those with experience in west coast sawmill equipment (forklifts, boom boats, skid steers and log Loaders);

  • Highly developed machine diagnostic and repair skills are a benefit;

  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work with minimal supervision;

  • Excellent safety record and strong work ethic;

  • Highly motivated team player with excellent time management skills;

  • Creative and innovating thinking, logical problem solving, and a desire to participate in an organization committed to continuous improvement;

  • Accountable and dependable.
