Position Summary

Performs skilled labor to diagnose, evaluate, repair, and maintain equipment and assets using a variety of hand, power tools, and computer systems. This position can be located in Terrace or Kitimat, BC.

Main Responsibilities

1. Complete work as directed by Shop Foreman/Lead Head.
2. Perform a variety of tasks involving manual labor in heavy/highway construction and construction material plants.
3. Maintain a wide range of equipment and troubleshoot malfunctions from a mechanical, electric, and electronic standpoint.
4. Operate several types of construction equipment to evaluate condition.
5. Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure the job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
6. Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials.
7. Operate metal cutting, machining, and welding (oxyacetylene, electric, and arc welding) equipment in the repair of mechanical equipment and fabrication of tools, jigs, and fixtures.
8. Weld, braze, solder, and cut steel, copper, cast aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, and other metals and alloys and perform emergency on-site or scheduled shop repair and metal work.
9. Design, fashion, and forge new tools, iron work, and metal parts; modify existing equipment for special purposes.
10. Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
11. Attend Safety Meetings and meet training goals for job role and advancement.

Profile

Requirements:

1. Minimum four (4) years experience working within a shop environment.
2. Minimum two (2) years experience working as a mechanic on construction equipment.
3. Minimum two (2) years of field experience.
4. Red Seal Certification. 4th year apprentice mechanic may apply.
5. Must be able to enter and work in LNG sites and Port of Prince Rupert.
6. Can work independently with minimal supervision.
7. Excellent planning and organizational skills.
8. Excellent verbal communication skills.
9. Good computer skills in troubleshooting equipment software.
10. Must be a strong team player, with strong customer service orientation.
11. Ability to travel the region to support other locations (i.e. Prince Rupert or Smithers) as needed.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

1. Willing to work in the field and in all weather conditions.
2. Willing to work overtime (may include weekends) during the busy season (April to October) and on call as necessary.
3. Ability to utilize hands and fingers in order to perform repair and maintenance tasks on construction equipment.
4. Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands throughout the workday should the need arise.
5. Ability to lift and carry 50lbs.
6. Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch should the need arise.
7. Ability to see clearly or with assistance via necessary correction.
8. The noise level on the shop floor and around equipment may be loud.

10. This is a safety-sensitive position; selected candidate must pass drug and alcohol testing as required.

Compensation Data

Minimum $47 per hour.
