Job description

Heavy Duty Mechanic
Hourly rate: $52.50 per hour. Bonus level is 7.5% to 15.0%
Location: Meadowbank, BC

As a Heavy Duty Mechanic at Drax, you will perform regular and routine maintenance on machines and vehicles such as mobile equipment including forklifts, loaders, and trucks ensuring that safety, quality, productivity, and environmental policies are upheld to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
Technical

  • Provide regular and routine maintenance for machines and vehicles, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, productivity, and environmental policies.
  • Install, maintain, inspect, and repair a wide variety of mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and issues.
  • Collaborate with other trades in a team environment to enhance safety, efficiency, quality, and production.
  • Organize the mechanic shop and assist with inventory management related tasks alongside the Maintenance and support teams
  • Recommend plans of repair and troubleshoot complex equipment or machine issues

Shutdown and Projects

  • Offer assistance and expertise for projects and shutdown repairs, including planning as necessary.
  • Work with other maintenance team members and Drax staff to ensure the safety, efficiency, quality, and timely execution of projects.
  • Our ideal candidate actively contributes to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by following established standards and procedures, as well as complying with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Recommend improvement opportunities to processes, safety, or work procedures to your team as identified
  • Mentor apprentices or colleagues as required through their own professional development and career journey.

About you
You'll possess the following skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Red Seal Certified Trades Professional Designation
  • Between 3-5 years of progressive experience in an industrial or shop setting.
  • Proficient in maintenance practices and strong troubleshooting abilities
  • Ability to build rapport and establish strong working relationships with key stakeholders, using a collaborative and supportive approach to achieve objectives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confident with collaboration to fix issues and problem solving with colleagues
  • Self-motivated and decisive, with the ability to adapt to changes and manage competing demands.
  • Excellent problem solver, capable of finding and implementing effective resolutions.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule as needed, including occasional periods of on-call support or relief for major repairs or projects.
