Applicants must be at least a Level 3 Apprentice or hold a Red Seal certification.

The Job:

Heavy Duty Mechanics at GFL play a vital role in maintaining clean and safe neighborhoods by ensuring our trucks and equipment operate smoothly. Whether rebuilding, repairing, or performing maintenance, mechanics are essential to our operations and often become favorites among drivers. Teamwork makes the dream work!

A Day in the Life of a Mechanic:

  • Perform morning tasks such as maintenance or repairs on diesel, CNG, gas, and electrically operated trucks and heavy-duty equipment.
  • Utilize various power tools, hand instruments, and advanced equipment.
  • Complete daily reports, work orders, and procure necessary parts.
  • Plan and schedule repairs using M5 planner.
  • Assist in reviewing mechanical write-ups and coordinate repair schedules.
  • Perform afternoon tasks, continuing morning work or starting new ones.

What’s Required:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic.
  • Relevant safety criteria according to company standards.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, work independently, and maintain accurate records.
  • Willingness to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary for the job.
  • Physical ability to push, pull, bend, and lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Fine motor coordination and dexterity.
  • Ability to kneel, crawl, and climb.

Working Conditions:

Exposure to dust, noise, heat, cold, and fumes may occur.
