About ERM

ERM is hiring an Environmental Field Technician to support pre-construction surveys and environmental monitoring mainly in Smithers, British Columbia and northern Canada. In this role, you will lead pre-construction surveys and monitor construction and operational activities at various project sites. This is a full-time (84 hours per week, 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off), limited-term role with a duration of 3 months, extendable. Training will be provided for all client-specific and site-specific safety, security, sampling, and inspection procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Lead pre-construction surveys including migratory bird nesting surveys (nest sweeps), amphibian visual surveys, etc.
  • Monitor construction and operational activities to support mitigation and protection of wildlife and sensitive environmental features.
  • Promote safety awareness and the safe performance of our work.
  • Adhere to data management and quality standards.
  • Contribute to a positive, professional environment.
Schedule
  • Shift lengths will vary according to project needs but generally will be two weeks in length with two-week breaks between shifts. Shifts may occur over weekends and holidays.
  • Daily hours will vary depending on the site location and work to be completed; maximum 12-hour days.
  • Workdays are scheduled as far in advance as possible; flexibility is required due to potential last-minute changes.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of environmental monitoring or wildlife field experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Biological or Environmental Sciences, or related field preferred.
  • First Aid and Transportation Endorsement in BC or the ability to obtain before project start.
  • Ability to walk long distances and carry heavy field equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and terrain.
  • Wildlife identification skills, including birds by sight and sound.
  • Effective observational and organizational skills; experience recording detailed technical data is an asset.
  • Adaptability and flexibility.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint).
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record; ability to drive to various project locations and rent a vehicle.
Pay Transparency

Anticipated annual base pay: $69,867 - $94,770 ($33.58/hr – $45.56/hr CAD). This is a limited-term, non-exempt position. Pay will depend on education, experience, skills, location, and other factors. Bonus pay may be available for some employees.
