Job summary

Town of Whitby is seeking a Public Works operator to join our team. The successful candidate will operate and maintain heavy vehicles over 11,000 kg GVW, perform winter and summer road tasks, and deliver strong customer service to the public and staff.

Applicants must have a secondary school diploma, 1.5 years of relevant experience, a DZ licence, and defensive driving training. This hybrid organization offers a competitive hourly rate and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Requires secondary school diploma.
• Minimum 1.5 years of recent experience operating vehicles over 11,000 kg with tandem axle trucks.
• Valid DZ driver's licence in good standing.
• Defensive Driving training completed.
• Ability to operate equipment/tools/vehicles safely and professionally.
• Strong numerical, technical, analytical and researching skills for safe, accurate work.
• Physically capable of heavy lifting up to 50 lbs in varying weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain vehicles over 11,000 kg GVW, including single and tandem axle trucks and accessories.
• Load, haul and unload materials and supplies.
• Participate in winter snow operations: snow removal, sanding/salting and plowing roads and sidewalks.
• Participate in summer road work: sweeping, shoulder patching, repairing washouts, resurfacing and ditching.
• Ensure all equipment/tools are used safely and professionally.
• Provide excellent customer service and respond to inquiries from the public and staff.
